Howdy Dakkites!

I searched around but couldnt immediately find a thread on these Dreads so i'll make one here.

I've recently given the Ironclad entry in my codex and looksy and was wondering what the community at large thought of them. Personally I love them, 30 more points for Armor value 13! A hammer and melta gun, extra armor and move through cover, the possibilities for a free hurricane bolter, or doubling up on heavy flamers, and the option to throw a hunter killer or two into the mix for extra tank killing is just nice.

I'm thinking i'm going to get one, maybe two right quick and in a hurry unless someone points out some glaring flaw.

I know they dont have the long range as the other dreads, but their short to close range capabilities are numerous! I'll slap one in a drop pod and whistle inocently as it lands behind a Russ. Or send them out to proudly meet a Carnifex head to head in single combat.

Note: My comments about purchasing one or two isnt meant to infer that i'm trying to decide what dreadnought to buy, I already own two regular ones.

I'm eagerly awaiting what everyone thinks of them.

Death comes for you.

Iron clads are golden - Av13 is like 4th ed AV14, and means that S8 powerfists have a hard time dealing with them in close combat.

Heh... I like Ironclads, but engaging a Carnifex one-on-one may be a bad idea...

Perhaps shoot it a bit, down to 1 wound, first...

On the other hand, plonking it in the midst of an army of guardsmen and popping a russ sounds like an excellent idea. Good distraction, just don't expose the rear to lascannons/missile launchers.

Maybe take a deathwind launcher on the droppod to clear up annoying weapons teams?

Take double heavy flamers (especially in a Vulkan list), put it in a drop pod and terrorise the enemy. The Ironclad is a "look at me, deal with me!" unit; dangerous and in your face, and forces the enemy to respond quickly. And while they're busy dealing with the rampaging dreads, the rest of your army has an easier time advancing.

I run Three of them in my 1500 and 1750 armies, I at all of them with a heavy flamer and melta. They are hard to kill and easy to kill things with. IMHO an awsome all around unit, and they look so much more badass then a regular dread

I was never interested in them until I ran into a Deamons Atmy with Two Soul Grinders my Termies dealt with one but I was hard pushed to deal with the other. Afer taking some advice I purchased an Ironclad and watched it pick up the Soul Grinder spin it around a bit and then smash it back into the Warp before the Ironclad tapped the Keeper of Secrets on the shoulder said boo and chased it off the table (well killed it actually).

I think they are awesome in my 2000 point smurfs list I use the Ironclad as one of my two dedicated assault units (the other being Assault Terminators with a counts as Vulcan). I have found that this balance is great and when I don't win it is because either my opponent was better or I had crap tactis rather than a bad list.

NB Always buy a drop Pod and if you want a bit of extra bite to support the Ironclad then add a deathstrike missile launcher
