It's never happened to me but it's always a fear lurking in my mind...

What if, whilst I'm playing tabletop I nip to the loo, or turn my back or read my 'dex... what's to stop some little kid/passerby from the street bagging one of my nicer minis?

Does it actually happen?

If so... stories!

I have stolen some minis before, but it was totally on accedent and I gave them back, no harm done. Thats all I got....

I've never had a mini stolen, but I do paint my initials on the bottom of all my bases.

Is it just me, or does there seem to be an increase in theft related threads?

Ok I have had one of my marines stolen. Well 2 of them. The first one was when i went to put my dead guys in my case during a break of our game. My battle for macragge guy L.T. Octavius i think it is the one wiht the gene seeds i cant remember. Any way he was in the middle of a group of orks. when the game resumed i went to move him and he was gone.

Number 2. I was playing a short game of warhammer 40k and it was defence one hero vs an oncoming horde of zombies. there were like 4 players including myself and I hade horus (I was playing chaos at the time before I went to ultramarines.) i one eliminating a store record of 159 zombies and killing 2 ultramarine comapany champions. i had to pee went back to the table and my guys was gone i was soooo sad i said im never doin chaos again and i got a free ultramarine i still miss my horus tho he was good.

I kid ate one of my orks before. I didn't get it back. Is that stealing?

i had a 5 and a half year old in gw walk by and i didnt notice that he grabbed my apothacary when i wasnt looking,the person i was playing told me.i went and told his mom(who was painting at the painting table)and got it back.

I stole a kid's space marine once. I was like "im takin dis" and he was "omg nooo" and then I was "lol jk" so I gave it back and he was like "lol ur funi"

I had a marine sgt with a caution striped powerfist stolen while I did I demo game @ the store many moons ago.

One of my friends had his army stolen by some sore loser.

I had 15 seconds of my life stolen by this thread.

I've never had one of my models stolen before. However, at the end of Historicon I usually find somebody else's models on the ground here and there. I've got an Arabian swordsman, a Men in Black style guy with a suit and shotgun, and another figure or two. Then again, I largely only play with friends, and seldom play in an environment where there's more than a few people to lose track of.

Personly no , but the intro table in my local gw is aways having the captain and terminators stolen from the assault on black reach set .

i am allmost scared to take my forge world deathguard up to Adepticon... back when he played wolves (the old dex) a buddy of mine had several marnies swiped from him.

and last adepticon another friend had one of those warhammer binders stolen. it had his codex chaos deamons and chaos space marines in it as well as templates, dice, tape measure, and other goodies.

and i forgotten my flamer templat at home, so i bought one up there... gone after my 1st bathroom break.

Aye it happened to me at my local games club! the guy swiped my corbulo, which was very well painted and had a distinctly painted chalice and face... he then proceeds to come to the game club the wk after, butchering the paint job but leaving the face and chalice in my paint scheme!... claiming he had painted the face to! the cheek!... he is now a casualty of mr norris... mr norris frowns on theft of little men...

Templates almost don't count. My template count fluctuates on a regular basis.

Years ago (I was about 8-9) I moved to a new area and was desperate to make new friends, because of that I probably wasn't as selective as I should have been and this resulted in gaining several "friends" who thought that it was cool to steal my Epic miniatures and other toys when they came round to my house.
I never caught any of them doing the stealing but later on saw my stuff when I was round at one of their houses, it annoyed me because their parents ran the local news agents and had the flat above the shop for free, so they weren't exactly poor and unable to have their own stuff. I asked for them back and they went calling out to their parents that I was accusing them of stealing. I got chucked out of their house by their parents and most of my new "friends" refused to speak to me again.
I remember being really upset at the time but Karma sorted things out as it turned out that their parents were also a pair of theives. The company found out that they were stealing money from the shop so fired them and kicked them out of the flat. I remember them coming round to see my mum and ask if she could lend them some money, my mum wasn't overly impressed with them as not only had their kids stolen from me but previously the parents had run over my bike (in all likely hood on purpose) and refused to replace it or put money towards a replacement. She told them to feth off.

Never once in 20 years of playing.

I started out with one whole dice cube and a few dice from a started game. Now all thats left is one or two dices. Somehow the WHFB artillary dice has disapeared and I don't even play fantasy battle!

I thought about painting a mark on my dice but then I thought it might upset the wheight so I decided against it.

once at my FLGS this 19 year old guy was watching a game of 40k between me and another guy who is seen a lot around the store. i was rolling a few die and 2 fell off the table. me and my opponent picked up the die that fell, and when i got up, i caught the guy watching us stuffing 2 of my destroyers and my opponents eldar farseer. he was caught by the other people further down the store including the staff, we got our stuff back but he was permanently banned from the store. scariest moment ive ever had.

Whilst working at GW, the little toadstools would swipe the demo figures. To wit, the manager would say "if they aren't stealing them, you're not painting them good enough." So one of my mottos has become "paint it like you want it stolen."

I always count dice as a consumable item, as I have lost plenty and obtained plenty. However I have never deliberately stolen dice as I believe that they would only roll bad 'cos of karma

Magic markers will do the trick. No unbalancing at all. Infact I did that to some white dice years ago, and it stained the white the color of the marker. So if they are white, the color wont even wear off.

I haven't had any mini's stolen yet. Though upon saying this I figure the Irony of life will sneak up on me and I will lose everything by the hands of some sneaky wrongdoer.

Never had a mini stolen intentionally. I've had them picked up by another player on accident or by our DM (play more TTRPG than Wargames) and I always get them back immediately. I did, however, have a Magic the Gathering deck stolen at my FLGS by some scum bags that had never been in before. I got the deck back after punching the guy quite a few times. Apparently thieves don't like pain.

I had my entire Black Templars army stolen from my local games workshop a few years ago. I had turned my back for a few seconds to dice off against my opent for table side, in that time some kids had walked into the shop and stole my case. The staff handeled it very well and reinbursed me for everything that was stolen. I was really upset because the perps were never caught and they had managed to take an army away from me which took me 2 years of chores to collect.
