Death-Dealing Ultramarine Devastator

Hi all,
I have been playing this game for some time, back in 3rd infact. My better half has expressed a small interest in learning to play and i was wondering what the best starter army/way to teach her was. I would love to keep her away from space marines, as there are way too many space marine players out there. Thoughts?

some women like witch hunters, if only because their main troops are female.... though the are an expensive all metal army :-/

After the orbital strikes, Thunderhawk bombardments, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, fusion and starfire and finally Battle Brothers with flamers had finished cleansing the world of all the enemies of Man, we built a monastery in the center of the largest, most radioactive impact crater. We named the planet "Tranquility", for it was very quiet now.

That's like saying that male children like to play Orks because they're Boyz.

well technically they are asexual. I would just sit down with her and go thru each of the armies on the GW site, describing a bit how they play, etc. Then she can pick herself,

thanks for the advice, now if she would only make a choice. i might, for sake of my sanity, just set her up a small wolves army, as i have some of the minis, and go against her with some orks.

I would suggest that you let her go through the race summary part of the rulebook and let her find an army that sparks her imagination.
For a first army that's more important than how it plays. (and all the new codexes have a good selection of builds available)

Go with a simpler army that doesnt take alot of thoughts with the tatics so that she can get a few wins and understand the game. Then have her branch out into other armies. The worst thing I see people do is pick an army list that is too complicated and try to work it and get destroyed and loose interest because they cant win a game.

Have her look at the main rulebook and let her choose something that way. Honestly if you are going to teach somebody how to play, have them learn with an exact copy of what you have. That's how I taught my friends. Say Marines for example, have a force commander and tactical squad and maybe a dread on each side. That way you learn the mechanics of the game through repetition, and the game is completely fair, other than lack of experience.
My wife likes her Orks and she's played with my Dark Eldar a couple times. She mainly likes the old silly Orks, got them from a friend of mine that gave them away.
