muwahaha... with the 'ardboyz mission 3 penalizing mech armies heavily, I'm willing to bet there will be a lot of emphasis on footslogging lists, or at least lists that are only semi-mech.

so, I figure my grey knights might have a shot... being amazing at killing infantry and all, their anti-tank is a weakness I hope won't bite me in the ass too hard.

Here's what I got -

HQ: GK Hero ( Grimoire of true names, hood, relic) - 205 pts
Retinue: 4x GKT (1x psycannon)

Elite- 5x GKT (incinerator, hammer/shield on brocap) - 260 pts
Elite- 5x GKT (incinerator, hammer/shield on brocap) - 260 pts

Troops- 5 man PAGK squad (2x psycannon) - 200 pts
Troops- 10 man PAGK squad (1x incinerator, teleport homer) - 295 pts
Troops- 10 man PAGK squad (1x incinerator, teleport homer) - 295 pts

Heavy- Land Raider Crusader (smoke) - 258 pts
Heavy- Land Raider (smoke, extra armor, searchlight) - 259 pts
Heavy- Land Raider (smoke, extra armor, searchlight) - 259 pts

only gives me 25 scoring models, but meh, its a grey knights list... never many models in here. Planning to start the 2 larger power armor squads in the godhammer raiders, the grandmaster in the crusader. The other terminators deep strike on with help from the t-homers.

gives me alot of anti-infantry love, and doesn't give up many killpoints.

After the orbital strikes, Thunderhawk bombardments, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, fusion and starfire and finally Battle Brothers with flamers had finished cleansing the world of all the enemies of Man, we built a monastery in the center of the largest, most radioactive impact crater. We named the planet "Tranquility", for it was very quiet now.

I'm a fan. I would hate to face three Landraiders. My Long fang lascannons would be glowing red just trying to killem.

So....lemme get this straight.

You've seen the 'Ard Boyz missions.

Mission one requires you to hold 4-5 objectives more than your opponent to get a massacre. And your answer is to bring 3 troop choices? And I guess hope that none of them are touched or find contested objectives during the game so that you can at least get a tie?

Just strikes me as an army not capable of playing the actual missions.

an excellent point... how about this then?

HQ: Grey Knight Grandmaster (psy hood) - 180 pts
Retinue: 4xGKT (1x incinerator) - 199 pts

Elite: 5xGKT (incinerator) - 260 pts
Elite: 5xGKT (incinerator) - 260 pts

Troops: 5 man PAGK squad (psycannon, targeter) - 176 pts
Troops: 5 man PAGK squad (psycannon, targeter) - 176 pts
Troops: 10 man PAGK squad (incinerator, t-homer, frag grenades) - 296 pts
Troops: 10 man PAGK squad (incinerator, t-homer, frag grenades) - 296 pts

Heavy Support: Land Raider (extra armor, smokes, searchlight) - 259 pts
Heavy Support: Land Raider (extra armor, smokes, searchlight) - 259 pts
Heavy Support: GK Dread (TLLC, smokes, extra armor) - 139 pts

gives me 5 more scoring bodies, in a seperate squad, as well as a dreadnought, at the cost of a land raider crusader. So 4 troops choices. Considering i'll be leaving the 5 man squads way back field, shrouding might actually help them stay alive.

Why extra armour on the Dread? It has a Lascannon, there is little need to move it unless you want to assault.

Also you could even get another squad in by taking the big squads down to seven men each.

I don't know your codex well enough to give specific unit advice, but I'd ask you this:

Knowing that you're going to have to win all three games, and also that you will at most control the placement of 3/5 of objectives.....do any of your troop choices have the ability to take any long range weaponry? Lascannons? Missile launchers? If you can, you might consider having two squads of them that will be static objective holders and long range anti-tank.

If you can't - I would minimize the size of those squads and make the rest of the army as capable as possible of alpha-striking and ripping into enemies.

Also, it looks like you have 3 terminator units (HQ+2 elites) and only two land raiders? Where is the third terminator unit going?

incinerators on the GKs?

*facepalm*

psycannons, psycannons, psycannons are the only weapon for GKs.

if you want to know how to play GKs look up the GK tactics article here on dakka.

other then that your list look good.

have the 5 man PAGK squads in the LRs for holding objectives and the rest form a gunline(dreadnought hides behind the GKs for a cover save)

Shrouding can save you.

alrighty, the plan was to have the 2 10 man squads ride in the raiders, and call down the 15 GKT with a deep strike. Reading through though, thats probably a bad idea, because I want to be able to count on all my terminators hitting the same place, at the same time, to really kick the gak out of my enemy.

Here's a 3rd list...

HQ: Brother Captain (hood) - 81 pts
Retinue: 4x GKT (incinerator) - 199 pts

Elite: 5x GKT (incinerator) - 260 pts
Elite: 5x GKT (incinerator) - 260 pts

Troops- 5 man PAGK squad (2x psycannon, targeter) - 201 pts
Troops- 5 man PAGK squad (2x psycannon) - 200 pts
Troops- 5 man PAGK squad (psycannon) - 200 pts
Troops- 5 man PAGK squad (psycannon) - 200 pts
Troops- 5 man PAGK squad (psycannon) - 200 pts

Heavy: Land Raider Crusader (extra armor, smokes) - 258 pts
Heavy: Land Raider (extra armor, smokes) - 258 pts
Heavy: Land Raider (extra armor, somkes) - 258 pts

2500 pts on the dot.

gives me 7 psycannons for fire support.... not bad. I sit back, pump 7 psycannons a turn into the enemy along with fire from the land raiders, waiting for the enemy to come to me... and when they do, 15 grey knight terminators will be there to greet them. I really don't think there is a unit in the game able to withstand a charge from grey knight terminators with an incinerator, unless its a 600+ pt unit of nob bikers or thunderwolves. in which case, i'll just put 2 units of terminators against it and call it a day.

Looks better, but a concern I have: Psycannons are STR6 AP4. That's infantry killing power, with limited ability to tackle rhinos, but not a realistic threat to AV12, and no threat to AV13-14.

That leaves you with two land raiders that each have two lascannons each, and a multimelta on the crusader for closer range work. I can't help but reiterating that round1 is important; if you don't get a significant win, the rest of your performance probably isn't going to matter for round2 and 3. You can't sit back and wait for your enemy to come to you, you're going to have to go to them - you don't have the long range firepower to table your enemy.

I think your own list would give you real trouble - you don't have viable answers to AV14; everyone else's land raiders can smoke too, and Orks have the KFF, meaning your lascannons on the land raiders need an incredibly lucky shot to do anything. Is there anything you can do to prep you to better handle heavy armor?

ok... revision 4. Switching parent codex to codex: space marines

HQ: Librarian (null zone + avenger) 100 pts
HQ: Brother Captain (hood) - 81 pts
Retinue: 4x GKT ( incinerator ) - 199 pts

Elite- 5x GKT ( incinerator) - 260 pts
Elite- 5x Assault Terminators (3x hammer 2x claw) - 200 pts

Troops- 10 man tac squad (las/plas) - 190 pts
Troops- 10 man tac squad (las/plas) - 190 pts
Troops- 10 man tac squad (las/plas) - 190 pts

Fast- 3 multimelta assault bikes - 150 pts
Fast- 3 multimelta assault bikes - 150 pts

Heavy- Land Raider (multimelta) - 260 pts
Heavy- Land Raider (multimelta) - 260 pts
Heavy- Land Raider (multimelta) - 260 pts

there we go. Gives me 9 lascannons (6 twin linked) and 9 multimeltas. Gives up 22 killpoints in mission 3, and can deploy 6 scoring units (combat squads) in mission 1. provides 15 terminators worth of killy goodness delivered in 3 land raiders. Not pure GK at this point... but still sexy I think.

After the orbital strikes, Thunderhawk bombardments, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, fusion and starfire and finally Battle Brothers with flamers had finished cleansing the world of all the enemies of Man, we built a monastery in the center of the largest, most radioactive impact crater. i see 16 kill points.

yes this is a sexy list.

gives mech armies a run for their money and could be nasty to horde as well.

I'm with dash on this one. Even with the last iteration of the list, I don't see you doing well.

Even if you combat your marines into gunline/special you are walking.

Why the fascination with GK termies?
