I recently got to paint some Salamander Scouts with a sort of cracked lava camouflage. I'm not sure that a camo pattern like this would work in a lava field (unless your cloak was emitting light) but I was very pleased with the way it looks on the minis:

They look great As for the camo cloaks they look awesome as the scouts could be training on Nocturne

The trouble is just that most of the time you want to make the camo patterns match the bases that you've made for the unit.

But with the lava bases, there just hasn't been any cracked lava wars in human history, so there isn't any camo pattern to match it.

I suppose this force, with their lava bases might be defending Nocturn, but I think it is just as likely that they've been deployed to a similar death world because they have such strong innate experiences dealing with lava pits.

Dude I love these guys - awesome job truly. I am just assembling some scouts now for an upcoming Kill Team tournament and you have provided some inspiration here.

As for the camo cloak thing - I see it more as a symbolic 'fluff' thing. Marines generally scoff at camo/hiding for the most part anyway, but your cloaks look like a small tribute to the home world. Paint job is great either way.

Thanks.

I kind of think of most of the same way for a lot of basing. Like giving Space Wolves snow bases- I mean, Fenris isn't getting invaded anytime soon, but it is a sort of tribute to that part of the fluff.

Awesome scouts. But on a side note in regards to your fenris puppies not having to worry about being invaded..... the 1k sons will have their revenge. Muhahahahaha. Lol j/k I don't even play chaos but I do like the thought of the puppies and the sons going at it again for some epic battles

More great stuff from GNP. Honestly, You're one of the few studios I bother to follow. Keep up the good work and one day I'll get the balls to request a commission.

Ok, that'll be a pretty awesome fight. But who knows when that will happen, and more importantly, who knows what the Thousand Son's rules will look like on that day? Will they have inferno bolters? Will they have two wounds each? Will they be immune to Str 4 weapons?

I haven't checked out the novels, but the Salamanders in the codecies have a long history of changing skin tones (they were even white guys for a little while). I mostly picked the version of them that I liked the best.
