While the missions made me waver on which army to take, I decided to stick with my Necrons as I think they'll fare better against the local top meta armies. I did tweak them slightly to accommodate the lack of Night Fight, which I will sorely miss, by taking out the Solar Pulse and adding an eleventh Warrior to the other two units since odd numbered units are slightly harder to get VPs out of. Going to have to borrow three Heavy Destroyers from someone though, and if I can't I'll have to throw in a Monolith or maybe a unit of Immortals.

Necrons Roster

1 Lord @ 170 pts (Staff of Light; Destroyer Body; Resurrection Orb)
1 Destroyer Body
1 Resurrection Orb

1 Lord @ 200 pts (WarScythe; Destroyer Body; Nightmare Shroud; Phase Shifter)

Might want to give the Destroyer Lord a Resurrection orb, but that's the only thing I see missing.

A Lord without a res orb?
I have always seen the orb as a needed piece of wargear on a lord, as the enemy does not want to see the tin cans to get back up.

First Lord has the orb, and he babysits the Warriors, with his Destroyer platform letting him get it where it needs to be and protect him from the enemy.

Second Lord is more of a lone wolf. The Destroyer platform and Phase Shifter makes for a very durable Warscythe/Nightmare Shroud delivery system.

One change I'm debating on is moving all the extra Warriors into one unit, so it'd be a 14/10/10/10. Would let the first unit spread out a bit more to cover the units behind them. Plus it would make them more expensive than the Destroyer, to shift the enemy attention away from them somewhat.

The change would be a good idea as it makes it more flexible.
Lone wolf, huh? Well, just be sure to keep him safe.

i think you should drop one of the destroyer squads for more warriors...
i have a feeling yer gunna need the extra bodies, and all the other destroyers should take care of all the tanks//heavy infantry...

I think this is the first time I've been told to take More Warriors. At 40+ I'm already taking more than most!

i see you having problems with mission 3 as you could give up to 30 Kill points. 24 points in Destroyers and 6 in warriors.

looks like a very good Cron list though

let us know how the preliminary round goes.

Unless I'm forgetting something, it's only 4 KPs in Warriors, 1 each, right?

I'll cross my fingers for your success! I think that there's a lot of STR6 weaponry out there and that your destroyers are going to get hurt. :(

I play Orks and have no ranged firepower to speak of; I'd love to get a Vassal game in with you to test this out.

I've been messing with this a bit more. With only a single mission requiring you to take Objectives with Scoring Units, and it being the first/least important one, I'm thinking I might take Immortals for the first time in years. I typically eschew them for more Warriors to try and take Objectives as most games and tournaments have that come up in two out of three games. With the advance knowledge about not really needing that, the additional long range fire power could probably be quite useful. Though as I look at the condition of my Immortals, I'm reminded that for some reason I really hate assembling them despite how few parts they have.

you will have to keep those troops alive for the duration of the first battle if you want to win.

should be easy to contest though with all those destroyers.
