Couple months back we had a Very successful Doubles Tournament that brought in enough money I felt justified in skimming enough off for a really nice new piece of terrain to go with the store's wrecked Stompa. Finally got around to putting the thing together, and I felt the need to display my sickness. I'll get better pictures after one of the local guys gets the thing painted up for me, but until then, Behold!

That is very nice, but I would include some more damage around the existing gash, and a lot of smoke damage. Can't wait to see it painted!

That does look cool… I can picture a rusty/scorched paint job and a few crewmen desperately trying to repair that beast as part of a diorama…

Well, I mean it isn't really that expensive compared to things of it's size. The dark angel thingie is 78 euro's and this one actually has some parts left, which reminds me: I always wanted to see a vulcanon cannon platform. Or a chimaera chassis carrying one, heavily supported by legs and those things that keep the barrel up.(How long could it be?)

Anyway, it looks great. But the others are right, I'm even brave enough to ask if that would actually kill it. I mean, the others would explode because of the shells in the turret. But this one has relativly small ammo for a superheavy. And the engine is in the back.

It doesn't look THAT dead.
It could atleast be on fire. xD

Or you could turn it into a bunker on the un-damaged side. [:

i like it a lot, but it could def do with more damage. it would be cool to have all the soldiers of enemy and IG lying about it in their attempt to fight over the spare parts

I tried to keep the damage to a somewhat minimum because if you start blowing holes and what not in the sides, it makes it too obvious that it's just a hollow toy on the inside with no interior detailing. Plus I like the structure and shape of the tank as a gear terrain/cover asset. The guy painting originally said he wasn't going to work on it till after `Ard Boyz because I want this tank to be able to go on a table, but apparently he picked it up the other day and thinks he might have it done today, or at least before the tournament. I plan to bring my camera to `Ard Boyz so I'll get plenty of shots of this and all the other terrain I've been working on.

I specifically chose the Stormlord for it's passenger compartment in the back. Between it and standing on the track guards behind the "turret" gives you good raised position that still offer great cover.

i agree with not smashing holes on the sides, but there must be some way to damage it more, even if its just in the painiting, or having wires and other tidebits hanging out of it from various engines and stuff which have gotten busted.

That's true, too much damage and it'll look fake. Plus, the best 'damage' is the painted stuff, rust and all that. Some models turn out awesome after they're painted 'rusty'.

And if there's one thing my terrain painter likes, it's rust and dirt and damage.

I agree I would just add a fair amount of paint damage I think the structure is fine.

There's quite a bit you can do w.r.t damage that would look great.

This applies mostly to flatter sections or simple 90 deg bends on the model (fenders are always popular, as are tops of turrets)

Cut out sections you want to be damaged, then either using thin metal sheet( like a pie tray), aluminium and reshape the part that you cut out, overlapping the metal on the model a few mm Think about how you want it to be damaged and decide how faithful you want the reproduction to be (wrt rivets an the like)

Then, apply appropriate pressure to deform the section. Don't over do it! You can use the handle of an x-acto knife to simulate a strike but gently tapping it where you want the dent to be.

Then, once you're happy with the damage, attach the metal permanently, clean up edges etc and add any additional damage you might like. Prime and paint and Voila!

Really the sky's the limit here.

If you've got the money, nobody has any good reason to stop you. My only problem with that piece of terrain is that it's not that great for in-game use. It's mostly flat for models to stand on, at least.

It looks fairly well executed, I'll give that to you. Would like to see it painted though!
