The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

When 3D printing gets better and cheaper, I can see companies starting to use them a lot more, possibly even giving customers the ability to pose models, change their weapons, equipment, perhaps even paint jobs etc online before ordering and printing them.
Should bring in a rather cool age of model design and wargaming, though at the same time, kind of ruin the whole painting and modelling aspect of the game if it becomes widespread enough
These figure prints are on the lower end of the scale as far as rapid prototyping technology is concerned, and even the high end is not up to snuff for wargame standards.

Since GW wouldn't outsource anything like this they would have to heavily invest in 3d printers whilst they have plastic and resin moulding i wouldnt see this happening.
A collectors line could be good but they would need exposure to markets outside their traditional sphere to push a range like this.

The high end stuff is used in medical prototyping and is actually very good - it is just orders of magnitude more expensive than the commercial 3D printers of the sort that will have been used for the models above
I've played with fairly complex devices that were printed out "built" that had moving parts, interlocking mechanisms etc. Also seen some surgical guides which were indistinguishable from their moulded counterparts.

Yeah, they need to print out a new right knee for me.
Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

@ silver - organic shapes are a different entity from functional parts. I use the high end stuff all the time for work, even with the best the resolution and surface detail is not as nice as you would like. For most things that have larger surfaces they work out great, and larger surfaces are easier to sand or otherwise finish as well. For wargames figures the smooth faces you would like to see are on the order of the resolution of the process, which means you are washing out surface feature and detail.

seeing this, I envision the future... where you sit down at your computer, use a 3D modeling tool with supplied GW software to create a character in the pose / armor / weapons you want, and then send it off to the GW factory for manufacture...
damn sexy looking future it is.
After the orbital strikes, Thunderhawk bombardments, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, fusion and starfire and finally Battle Brothers with flamers had finished cleansing the world of all the enemies of Man, we built a monastery in the center of the largest, most radioactive impact crater. We named the planet "Tranquility", for it was very quiet now.

Technology is still new. Very Expensive. Defeats the purpose of model war gaming IMO. Cute Novelty. Not very effective....
