I'm currently rewriting the dakka stylesheets to be much more efficient and to clear up some glitches that exist, as well as allowing dakka to look a bit nicer on mobile phones.

This is your chance to tell me about any GRAPHICAL or style glitches that you come across when using dakka ... the kind of little things that are not significant enough to normally complain about but are there and annoy you with your OCD a little bit

If a big fix is required I'll probably ignore you, but if it something that fits in to what I am working on right now, I'll implement fixes to your personal graphical annoyances.

Also, if you have any requests for themes and styles, then make them known. The current plans are to keep the existing grey/gold style, keep the existing blue/green/white style (though with a few tweaks here and there), add a mobile phone grey-on-black theme and add a 95% black and white boring work-safe theme (a few bits of colour will remain like the logo, banner ads and avatars/sigs). If there are any you think would be useful that I have not mentioned there, then make them known and I'll consider adding them if it is not too much work.

If you are reporting a glitch that annoys you in this thread, you must also state:
1. Which theme you use (grey/gold or white/blue).
2. What web browser you use, including version number (IE7, Firefox 3.6.3) - find this out by clicking 'Help' then 'About' in your browser menu.
3. Your screen resolution (the 'Screen Width' value of this page: http://www.dakkadakka.com/core/test.jsp )
4. What operating system you use (windows, mac, linux, mobile phone)

I am aware of a few glitches at the moment which will be fixed. These are:
1. The strange variation in font sizes and how poorly they scale on different devices
2. Mobile phone display glitches for forum buttons
3. The slow loading time of some pages for the first time load

I'm unsure if this is a glitch of intentional but the buttons on the top left (FORUM|GALLERY.. etc) have changed size and become bold. I'm not too sure if this was intentional or not, it just suddenly happened when i logged in.

im using the grey gold with latest firefox windows on a XP

Here's a glitch that I don't think has anything to do with my browser or os, but basically when you view the list of forums, if one of them has a recent thread with a super long title, the title of the thread doesn't wrap at all, so you end up with all of the other table cells looking all squished.

And another thing, which I'm sure is a security thing.. but, why do I have to login every time I switch computers? I read dakka at work and at home I'm always having to re-login even if I click the little remember me box.

I need to know the OS/browsers so I can replicate without doubt.

As for bug 2, that is not a graphical bug so read through nuts and bolts for more info on it.

Well, I use Mac OS & Safari at work, at home Win7 & IE (Yes I'm a noob like that)

For the long subject thing, if you go to forum index and someone has a super long title for the most recent post, it squishes the other cells. Hardly a major issue, just a pet peeve

attached a screen shot..

This happens on the iPhone as well. Also on the iPhone there is an issue of text being larger for Article Discussion, Painting and Modeling Tutorials and WHFB Proposed Rules on the Forum Index page.

I've looked into wrapping things differently for the forum pages before, but think that the current option is probably the lesser of the available evils. I'll look into it again when I'm working on it though.

Any chance of a screenshot of the iphone text glitch you describe?

I know this came up in an earlier thread but it got lost in the shuffle....Dakka seems to like logging me off every three or four threads I view.

I'm using the latest Safari...
And I don't have the "keep me logged in" box checked, if that makes a difference.

Just graphical glitches here please. I'll deal with other bugs when I get to them in my current code refactoring.

Mine had the style sheet missing for the past few days, until I cleared the cache. Normal?

Somewhat normal, if you happened to load the site when it was being restarted or an update was being done, it would have that effect.

Unfortunately, Aussies and Kiwis must suffer that fate as I tend to do upgrades/updates/fixes in the middle of your day thanks to international timezones.

How would I go about only clearing the Dakka section of the cache? (Opera user)

Unless you are on dial up, there are absolutely no issues with clearing the entire cache for all sites. You only need to clear the cache, (not cookies) to fix that bug.

Concerning mobile phones.

Default should be:
No avatars.
No sigs.

Setting this on your user CP does not change this function when using the phone to browse.

To be honest, it should be as bare bones as possible due to slow load rates.

duh

Seriously though, the phone version will have that, along with clearer/different graphics, a thinner header, 800 pixel max width, no post preview popups and faster loading skins with far fewer images (currently cut down from 62 to 9 main images).

New Zealand has broadband, but has poor bandwidth, so I like to try to avoid wiping the entire cache.

The point I was trying to make is that when adjusting your user CP on an actual terminal to have no sigs or avatars as default does not transfer over to the phone.

Though I do not use an iphone so am not sure if its an OS issue or not.

It would change it, but you would need to logout and login again to make the changes 'live', and that would be very annoying, slow and bandwidth eating on the phone.
