Hey, I was thinking about building an army around the Tyrannofex. Just such a bad-ass name and it would be a fun model to convert. I also created a true swarm army (over 180 models).

1 Hive tyrant (armoured shell, adrenal glands, implant attack, scything talons and the bonesword/lashwhip combo)
3 Tyrant Guard

Doom of Malan'tai

3 x units of 30 hormagaunts
3 x units of 30 termagaunts

Trygon Prime
Tyrannofex w/ rupture cannon and thorax swarm.

The one tyrannofex is nowhere near enough anti-tank for a 2k points level. The st10 shot is nice, but hitting on 4+ with only 2 shots a turn is just not enough imo.

I really think you should add some zoans or hive guard.

3 tyrant guard is of questionable necessity, especially when you have the 2+ armor upgrade.

I would consider slimming down your horma groups in favor of upgrading them with either adrenals or toxin sacs.

Those are just a few things that stick out to me.

I'd drop all troop units down to 20 models, or cut 2 out.
You really do need some anti-tank, and even with 120 gants (of forms) you will outnumber allmost everyone you play.

Also, by cutting out 30 of each you save yourself enough points to add in some anti-tank.

330 points is enough to do some damage, i would also cut out doom to save another 90.
You dont need those large high Str plates falling on your own units each turn.

with 420 points you can add:

3 hive guard - 150
3 thropes 180

Might be worth dropping a single tyrant guard and adding in 3 more hive guard after that too.

Well I did a quick add up and it looks like you aren't accounting for a drop pod for the zoans. I'd highly recommend you cut a bit to give them one, its only 40 points and just really great for positioning their short range st10 shot.

Why don't you take acid blood instead of implant attack as it works with your whip a lot lot better. Though your tyrant is on foot and geared for close combat; I would drop the guard and get some wings so you can get into assault quicker.

Zaonthropes could do with a pod so they can drop into range quicker.

@pth88: I'll look into the drop pod for the zoanthropes as dropping three strength 10 shots BEL is something I'd LOVE to do :-).

@mercer: I think for now I'll just start with the tyrant model and the guard and see how it goes. if he continuously gets gunned down before getting into combat I'll consider throwing some wings on him.

I know you like the idea of a swarm but have you thought about maybe running a 4 squads of gaunts (2 of each at 30 models) and a tervigon for the termagaunts?
Tervigons give counter attack, adrenal and toxin sacs give the unit of termas poison weapons and furious charge also. Plus she can sit on an objective and pop out babies.
Lastly I like the idea of a tyranofex centered army
