So, I've had a REALLY bad string of dice rolls. As in I've not won or tied a game in about a month... at an average of 5-7 games a week... you do the math. I've used my own dice; two different sets, I've used my friends dice, I've borrowed dice from the store.... No luck. What do you do when you can't even roll average anymore?

Sounds like just some bad luck. There is an incredibly small chance that you would roll that badly for that many games, but dice are all about luck.

You could always make sacrafices to the dice gods.

In great armour shall I clad them and with the mightiest guns will they be armed. They will be untouched by plague or disease, no sickness will blight them. They will have tactics, strategies and machines so that no foe can best them in battle. They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. I feel your pain. 12 dice and 6 1's. 3+ cover save for kroot. 4 survived :(. This happens to me all the time. Even in World of Warcraft. Roll on a 1-100 scale. 3 1's in a row. The dice gods hate me.

The greater good needs some moo.

Had a 2 on 2 game of killteam last week (and to the group, I didn't come today because I found out that without a ride, the closest bus/train stop would still involve a 26 minute walk!). Me and my team mate ended up rolling 1s for pretty much everything. I had a team of 5 Pathfinders and 5 Dire Avengers. Pathfinders were in 2+ cover, and all but the last one were killed on the first shot fired at them, and of those four, they only managed to inflict a single wound. The Dire Avengers didn't fare much better.

Thankfully, the last Pathfinder managed to kick a bit of ass by his lonesome.

Sacrifices to the dice gods are the only way, my friend.

Take one of the rounded corner GW dice, and burn it, while singing this prayer

"Dice gods, I beseech thee, may this offering bring you great pleasure, I pray that you will see I am a worthy servant to you, so you may grant my dice luck"

Worked for me.

Make sure to have the other dice watch so they know what will happen if they keep screwing around.

BTW, what's so bad about the rounded dice? I don't mainly use those, but I like the way they feel in your pocket, olo

I did do the math.

The dice aren't the problem. Unless you're exaggerating, but it's very unlikely that your dice are faulty.

Rounded dice aren't uniformly. The center of gravity is therefore off, making the die skewed towards certain facings. Thus it is not truly random.

In the vast majority of cases, this is no big deal. I use gamescience dice for all of my tabletop RPGs, but I just use loads of chessex dice for wargames.

How many dice have you got?

If you're like me and you have a couple of hundred(and if you don't, get more dice; it's like dakka, you always need moar), here's what you need to do.

1. Roll them all.

2. Get all the dice that rolled a 1.

3. Roll all of those.

4. Go to 2 unless Dice < 20, in which case goto 5

5. Put dice in a special container, and pull them out when you need a clutch shot. If you've prerolled the 1's out, there's no way you can lose!

When my first set of dice went bad, I froze them and threw them in the woods. When my second set went bad, I smashed one or two with a hammer. My most recent set to go bad was traded with a friend's set that also went bad. We've both been rolling fine ever since.

I've been here myself. Between 2001 and 2003 I won the 'Murphy' award at EVERY tourney I went to. In many cases they didnt have a bad luck award- but after my opponents would tell the TO's how bad my luck was they'd gimme the 'award'.

At the start of 2004 I switched to armies that were fairly 'dice proof', like an Ork infantry horde that did well vs the Las/plas cookie cutters that were popular then. And I started winning again

When luck hates you- get more dice!

It can take the fun out of the game- but sometimes just switching your goals can help. Like with my Orks- I would TRY to get them all killed, and hence- bad dice rolls became good! (like reverse dice psychology)

My dice are the opposite.
They would even make satan proud.
11 attacks against orks? 10 hits. 9 wounds. All fail their saves. It's awesome.
Or get my dread hit by missile twice, both times he only gets a vehicle shaken.

Anyways, if your dice hate you, then pretend that you want to fail. The dice, in an effort to anger you more, will pass instead. But you musn't show the slightest amount of joy, for then they will be aware of your devious plan. This will always outsmart them.

The best method I've heard of is as follows:

Roll all dice and put the dice that rolled 6's into a circle
Roll the remaining dice in the circle and add any dice that roll 6 to the circle.
Repeat until only one die is left in the middle of the circle - the one that refused to roll a 6.
Execute that die with a hammer while the others watch.

Are you playing an almost exact army everytime? If so change up your lists, and I mean more then just 1 unit difference. I really hope your exaggerating on how bad it is though, even the suckiest of players will win a game in that time just by sheer chance

Also you could have some cursed units in your lists. When I played Chaos, I literally stopped taking lascannons for that reason. Im not even close to exaggerating, the entire time I played them, I destroyed 2 rhinos and maybe a hand full of minis in the years of playing CSM. If I took lascannons they were just wasting points because they would either miss, or wouldnt roll high enough for penetration. I killed alot of things with autocannons and Hbolters though

Use an online dice roller, I recommend www.random.org as it is the most accuratly random dice simulator out there (and lets you roll up to 5 at one time, the D&D one is also not bad). Either use your laptop or if you are on ATT(Iphone)/Droid I am fairly certain there is an app for that.

I've had some bad luck during certain turns in a game, and I've had bad games where the dice seemed to fail me.

However, it could also be your lists or you lack of generalmanship.

Just putting that out there. Only a 10 year old blames the world for their woes. Sometimes, you have to look within to attain true enlightenment and improvement.

The first step in any program is admitting you have a problem.

Don't come back with "Well, I used to win all of the time, and now I don't, so shut up."

I'll simply say "It looks like your opponents have examined what they have been doing wrong and have increased their challenge rating. Time for you to do the same."

Good luck!

I've had some problems with dice in the past, the way I dealt with it is to throw the dice a fair distance (between 5-12 inches) when rolling anything but a massive number of dice that need to be dropped. Secondly, to make sure you shake your dice vigorously before you roll to try and achieve truly random results. Good luck to ya

Remember, bad dice luck is GRAVITY hating you. So, just drop some heavy objects on the ground to punish it, and you should be good.

Or just defy gravity for a few minutes, THAT changes it's attitude very quickly.

My cure is what a friend of mine calls "chaos loading" the dice. If I have a chance, when they're sitting on the table, I keep them one's up (for 40k, 6s up for something like GURPS).

Works for D&D as well. I've found that the first roll works better after a good shake.

Its simple: overspecialize and you breed in weakness. It's slow death.
