Hi all!

First off, I do not play a lot of Warhammer 40k, but I do love the aesthetics and athmosphere of Grimdark, so I periodically pick up some models just to paint and convert.

I was wondering if the current Chaos Daemons codex is any good for mono-deity lists? I've always been a big fan of the "old" Chaos Daemons fluff wherein the Gods did not get along (unlike now where it's a big happy family ), so I'd always go for mono-deity (I did the same with my Khorne Chaos Marines list, that allegedly wouldn't ever work on the tabletop, but it looks so nice )

So, would any of you vets oblige me and spin a few yarns on this subject?

Thanks!

I play a mixed list, but mono-god lists can be very effective. Somnicide, who's active on these boards, plays an all-Tzeentch list with Fateweaver, and an all-Nurgle Tallyman build can be very effective. Which Chaos god were you interested in?

By the way, daemons can be challenging to play effectively, thanks largely to the fact that you will only ever have half your army on the table on turn one, and it may not even be the half you want on the table that turn. You said you don't play a lot, so that implies that you're not that experienced of a player...and the army really works better in the hands of someone experienced. Just something to consider.

I've done a mono-Nurgle list with Epidemius and it's done very very well for me. All the T5 or higher with all the FNP makes for great staying power. It's not very maneuverable however as most things have SnP.

If you do go with mono-Nurgle, make sure Epidemius attaches himself to a bunch of Nurglings. 7 or higher. That way he has a ton of ablative wounds and can stay on the field long enough to drive up the list.

I play:

1000 pt Sons of Calthus
1000 pt Splinter Fleet Goliath

The only real problem with them is the way they enter the game, other than that, there are some nice units.

Mono-god lists do work, but require a decent list and knowledge of how to play the gods army.

Tzeentch -
*Nice ranged fire power.
*Expensive troops, but better saves and 3 shots each.
*They have the ability to pop tanks with shooting, something no other god can do.
*combat wise, well, keep away from it, about the only combat type units for tzeentch are LOC and daemon princes.
*Screamers act as very fast meltabombs, meaning early tank hunting.

Khorne -
* Alot of attacks.
* Basic troops have high WS and power weapons.
* Bloodthirster is the strongest model in the book (stats wise)
* Bloodcrushers cause tons of damage, but need to keep them away from gunlines.
* Skulltaker can cause instant death on a 4+, meaning 1 hit killing fex's and trygons.
* Just generally a very hard hitting army, but dont stand up to fire too well.
* Lack shooting, but combat makes up for it.

Slaanesh -
* Very fast moving.
* More attacks than khorne troops.
* Everything has rending.
* Very fragile though, so hide from shooting.
* make use of abilities like pavane to help win, otherwise, its just too fragile.

Nurgle -
* T5 troops as basic.
* FNP throughout most of the units.
* Poisoned weapons.
* Low attacks, so choose fights you want.
* Very slow, so dont expect to move miles each turn.
* Shrug off most damage, so best used for objectives.

anyway, thats just a quick rundown.
I would think khorne and tzeentch are the easier ones too pull off wins with.
Nurgle requires hanging back a bit and taking daemon princes to do the fighting.
Slaanesh is just too fragile, being fast helps, but doesent stop a bolter round taking thier heads off.
