For some reason, I always seem to end up with tons of pots of Snakebite Leather paint. And yet I don't think I've ever used it and been happy with it. It's just too bright. It doesn't really look like much that I've ever seen in nature, and the pigment is so powerful it dominates anything I mix it into. Everything I've seen done with it looks like a faux-leather shiny plastic belt one might buy from Spencer's gifts as a joke of some kind. Short of watering it down and using it as a wash to shade bone with, I just can't seem to get anything out of it.

How do you get results with the old Snakebite?

Everywhere I'm not supposed to be.

I like how it turned out on my IG's kit harness after a nice wash of Devlan Godsend. But other than that, yeah I just don't have any use for it.

If you need me, I'll be busy wiping the layers of dust off my dice.

I agree snakebite leather never looks good on its own unless you paint a wash over it. Its just too bright.

50/50 it with scorched brown and you get a nice deep warm colour. Mix a tad more SBL in for the hilight.

I use it for creating cracks in leather on my run-of-the-mill boyz.

Few thin streaks running perpendicular and not all the way across on the stress points of the belts and strapping seems to work quite nice. It's just maxing sure you don't apply too much...

Snakebite leather is an excellent color to make NMM golds from. Though I like my NMM golds to be a little more yellow, snakebite is still good for the job.

Use it as an under coat for skin colours (but don't use it for skin ).

Ok here is where most of you are WRONG!!
Yes you read correct! I said you are WRONG! Wanna know why? YES. YOU. DO! Snakebite Leather is probably THE most usful paint for orks, bases, weathering, water, armour, desert, snakes, LEATHER! If your going to use on a vehicle first do a 1/10 mix of Bestial brown and water and do that 3 times when dry then use 1/5 mix of Snakebite Leather and water and use this for a wash of metals and tracks of vehicles! It has a really good rusty corroded effect. If your going to use for other things like err.... CAMO! Then all you have to do is tape your vehicle up and take out your airbrush and sprayy!!! ( Thats what she said! ). Then for your next colour use Desert Yellow then Bestial Brown and you have THE best IG desert camo EVER!! ( Only kidding it really can suck sometimes ).

If your going to use the other method which is BASING MUD! Ok for a desert base just do these steps bestial brown, Bestial brown 50/50 Snakebite Leather, Then 50/50 Desert Yellow and Snakebite Leather!

That is probably why i LOVE COLOURS! Once I painted a rainbow ALL OVER A FREAKIN' BANEBLADE STORM!

That concludes my VERY BRAWNDO LIKE GUIDE TO SBL

It looked great on my Kroot and Hobgoblin Stikkas after dipping.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

Its ok folks, he's got Electrolytes!

Is Snakebite Leather the worst color ever? No, that honor probably goes to Elf Flesh....Snakebite leather is a good basecoat for doing blonde hair, it can work as a shade for parchment or tan robes, and if you want it to look more natural, just mix in some Scorched Brown, Chaos Black, or any other darker color.

What's with the hate for Elf flesh? ...I always thought it worked good as a highlight for red (mixed with Blood Red).

I use some Snakebite on my Orks here and there. It generally doesn't look as good as, say, Graveyard Earth, but it's okay if you want another shade of brown. GW actually has a surprisingly broad range of browns, now that I think of it.

Right, but remember that not all colors are designed to be big, primary army colors. Some are designed to be basecoats or terrain paint or whatever. Plus, some colors are just going to have fewer purposes in general. I mean, compare Skull White to Hawk Turquoise.

That said, given that the purpose of SBL was to be leather, yeah, it does fail rather badly in that role unless combined with other colors.

Yes, and being a man with a brown army, I like. I'm pretty sure they have so many browns because of WHFB, where you go for a lot more earthtones and natural colors.

And let me tell you, brown is the most natural of colors.

WD seems to use it a lot for a leather mid tone and also for horns.

I don't mind it. With a coat of devlan mud, it turns out quite ok. I use it when I want many different types of leather on my orks.

as either a highlight color, or as a base color which is then inked dark brown, I actually find it to be quite a useful color!

Wow, how can you hate Snakebite Leather? It's SOOO useful if your doing Non-metallic metal gold, bronze, brass, and the other brown-yellowish colored metals!
