Hello,

Once I have finished my Arbites Precinct (pics in gallery) I am planning to make a set of buildings using the same technique, i.e. 5mm Foamboard boxes basically. Making them is not too hard and I can cope with that. What I do have a problem with is painting them. I painted my Precinct with brushes because it was a model that needed some attention but it took so long to do! However, I will soon have about 10 reasonably large buildings that I will wish to paint quickly in probably one flat colour (you gotta love drab grey Imperial dwellings). I need a technique that is reasonably cheap (i.e. no £200 spray guns), available in the UK and, most importantly, will not melt the foamboard. Seems like a tall order putting it like that!

Many thanks for any thoughts to follow.

The OC-D

P.S. Will post pics when I have started building some.

Prime the edges with a little acrylic paint.

Lightly sand the surface of the sheets.

Get a can of spray paint and spray away.

Alternatively, use a bigger brush!

But still sand the surface of the sheets. It keys the surface and makes sure that acrylics stick to the board better.

@Grambo Well, no Walmarts in Britain but I'll find an equivilant. As long as it won't melt the foamboard.

@Mr. Burning If I sand the surface it will rip the paper layer off, won't it, leaving it devoid of protection? Bigger brush is always there as a back-up though.

Thanks,

The OC-D

prime the buildings witha 1:1 mixture of water and LATEX paint. this will not only act as a pimer but also will create a barrier for your various spray paints. once the latex primer is completely dry, spray whatever color you want onto the surface. Done.

It is the 3rd Millennium. For more than a hundred months Games Workshop has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Nottingham. It is the foremost of wargames by the will of the neckbeards, and master of a million tabletops by the might of their inexhaustible wallets. It is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with business strategies from the early Industrial Revolution Age. It is the Carrion Lord of the wargaming scene for whom a thousand veteran players are sacrificed every day, so that it may never truly die. Yet even in its deathless state, GW continues its eternal vigilance. Mighty battleforce starter-sets cross the online-store-infested miasma of the internet, the only route between distant countries, their way lit by a draconian retail trade-agreement, the legal manifestation of the GW's will. Vast armies of lawyers give battle in GW's name on uncounted websites. Greatest amongst its soldiers are the Guardians of the IP, the Legal Team, bio-engineered super-donkey-caves. Their comrades in arms are legion: the writing team and countless untested rulebooks, the ever vigilant redshirts, and the writers of White Dwarf, to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from other games, their own incompetence, Based Chinaman - and worse. To support Games Workshop in such times is to spend untold billions. It is to support the cruelest and most dickish company imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of sales discounts and Warhammer Fantasy Battle, for so much has been dropped, never to be re-published again. Forget the promise of cheaper digital content and caring about the fanbase, for in the GW HQ there is only profit-seeking, Space Marines and Sigmarines. There is no fun amongst the hobby shops, only an eternity of raging and spending, and the laughter of former employees who left GW to join better companies.

By Latex do you mean Acrylic?

No, I mean latex. It"s completely harmless to foam and the like. forms a nice "skin" to paint over.

Cool, it's just I did a quick Google for it and it kept saying it was an alternative name for Acrylic Paint.

It might be, i don't really know the difference. I've always used latex to be on the safe side. I suppose you could try a test peice or something.

Prime it with slightly watered down copydex .you can even add some fine sand .then you can spray it with an acrylic spray paint eg plasticote or similar.
then get a 2' bush and cut the bristles down to make a giant dry brush.

Textured spray paint from any B&Q, its called stone touch, also the suede touch is good too (they are made by plasticote i think), they give nice textures and aren't to melty, although a primer would be a good idea. The Stone touch is quite rough and doesn't go too far from one can and the suede touch is much smoother and goes further. The suede one is great for general light texturing. I'll post some pics when i get a chance.

I will look into this thanks for the info.

I'm not one for doing things lightly but I'll have a try

That sounds like a plan. A messy one nonetheless.

Well that hits the spot. (I'm sorry, you must get that all the time). I've got a B & Q near me, I'll have an explore one lunchtime.
