Subject: Best way to get a deep red/maroon?

Hey guys, I'm painting some Marines that are going to have a dark red/maroon sort of theme to them, and I was wondering the best way to accomplish this. Red Gore or Mechrite Red on a black basecoat is roughly the color I want but the coverage is terrible and it's taking me like 3-4 coats to get what I want with red gore. I'm also kind of unsure of how I should be highlighting it, since Blood Red seems to be a little too bright.
Would any other colors from any other brand be more likely to accomplish what I'm going for? Specifics would be nice.

Yeah definitely try P3 Sanguine Base... it's an awesome color. It's similar to Scab Reb but much better...
I base with that (over black primer) give it a dark wash, then highlight with Red Gore; then I further highlight with mix of red gore: blood red, then finally just blood red.
But even just Red Gore over the Sanguine base looks great.

Base with Mechrite Red then go over with Scab Red - it's a very pleasing deep red verging almost into purple.

I primed my figures brown, then did a first coat of Mechrite Red followed by Red Gore. I think it would work well with Scab Red though.

Right, if you're going for a DARK red/maroon, you don't start with red, you start with brown.
Try a dark flesh base with a liberal dose of teracotta on top. If that's still a bit too brown then go ahead and mix some red in. If you start with red, you're going to get a blood angels army, there's just no way around it.
