I am curious which army do you think is better and why between DE and HE i am contemplating which army to use

Are you asking which is better in the head to head matchup, or which is better overall? Are we ignoring comp and model issues here? In other words, are you looking at this from an 'Ard Boyz kind of perspective?

Right now Dark Elves are stronger in the tourney circuit. That could easily change once the new edition comes out.

Both suffer from being T3 low-armor forces overall. Both can crush most armies if played correctly. Played incorrectly, they are crushed instead. They are definitely tactical armies, rather than 'charge ahead and smash stuff' armies.

DE have much better items.

DE have much better shooting (albiet shorter range)

DE have much better combo/character/unit synergy for stacking abilities.

DE have shades which are better than shadow warriors

DE have dark riders who are much better than the HE reavers

DE have Hydras

DE have better spells and the ability to generate a ton of power dice.

I'd say DE by a long margin.
the only reason I am doing HE instead of DE is that my wife insisted I do a 'good' army.

More people play DE, in fact a LOT of people play DE. If you want something origional, pick High Elves.
