I'm in the process of creating a compilation of some of the best ideas that this forum (and others) have mustered wrt how to improve Necrons in the next codex. I plan to provide this feedback to Games Workshop (should they accept it) and include the results of the survey (see below). Help me out by taking the 10 question survey if you are playing (or plan to play) Necrons.

done. Was rather useful though I expected a question regarding whether you would like to see WBB remain closely to what it is or jump to FnP as alot of people can't agree on it.

Took the survey. It's nice, but I think the "What three things will you want" question has problem.

Namely, EVERYBODY probably wants a balanced codex. So I think you won't get as much variety in your results.

Very true on both counts.. I thought of a lot of things now that should have been there.. I plan to send them a letter with several asks in it. I'll use this as my justification.

I'm very impressed with the level of responses since I posted this. We have almost 100 responses. Also we only got a couple of ... more "colorful" write in responses so I think Games Workshop will believe we took this seriously.

Results are cool. The part about the troops choice thing definitely strikes me as strong and unanimous evidence.

OK, I'm looking at the results, and:

1. 72% Necron players is way too Necron-friendly. It's not not representative of the 40k player base at large.

2. Annual spend level of $200-$1k is normal / consistent with other surveys.

3. 59% spend nothing on Necrons, whereas only 18% spent more than half. That's more reasonable.

4. consistent with 3 and 2.

5. consistent with 2.

6. Top 2 wants for Power Balance & more unit types are pretty much givens for any new Codex coming out of GW. More backstory, anti-Vehicle, and more mobility are also given. The desire for more unit options cuts against the grain of the army design - Necrons aren't, and shouldn't be Marines, so a lot of people can expect to be significantly disappointed here.

7. The desire for more Troops is understandable, but it's not at all clear what form they would take. In many ways, this wish is a reflection of how poor the current design is. Necrons are excessively MEQ-like, but really shouldn't be. I think, if the basic Necron Warriors are properly reconcepted into something that is adequately tough, useful, efficient, and *not* MEQ-like, then no change is actually required.

8. This is kind of a silly question - if GW makes the army I expressly ask for, of course, I'll reallocate my spend toward it. But note that no additional monies are earned by GW for doing so. This kind of zero-sum benefit illustrates precisely why it is a complete waste of GW's resources to redo Dark Eldar, Necrons, or any othe other small-selling armies. It is also why Veterans are not part of GW's target market. GW gets the same pocket money regardless of whether they crank out more Marines, or if they tie up their best sculptor and designer for years.

9. This question is actually very insightful precisely because there is no strong preference. What this really means is that nobody actually cares about Necrons. They have no strong identity that players latch on to.

10. WBB and "tough" are the only distinctive mechanical elements of the army today, so of course, they're what's liked. Reshuffle the army list, and you'll get a new set of favorites. People can expect FNP replacing WBB, but beyond that, it's hard to say.

All valid points.. Although this survey was sort of targeted at Necrons. I posted on several different sites just so it didn't get perceived as too "Necron friendly". After seeing the survey results there are definitely things I would have done differently though..

P.S. I caved to the pressure and added the FNP versus WBB question at the end of the survey. You can go back to the survey at the start of this thread and add your response to it if you desire.

Yeah, more Necron players are going to be motivated to fill this out than non-Necron players. What you should have done was simply say "hey take this survey on a future warhammer 40k codex".

@OP: GW doesn't care about internet surveys or petitions at all. That said, if you're sending an Internet note, I'll be happy to send a counterpoint to GW so they can see range of interpretation.
