Played this weekend in a 30 man local tourny, 1850 points. Tourny was well run, everything on time and overall good competition.

My list:

Eldrad
Avatar

6 Fire dragons, exarch, flamer
-Wave serpent, shuriken cannon, stones
8 Scorpions, exarch, fist, stalker
-Wave serpent, bright lance, shuriken cannon, stones

10 Stormies, warlock, destructer, 2 flamers
-Wave serpent, bright lance, shuriken cannon, stones
10 Guardians, warlock, embolden, scatter laser
5 Dire avengers

Falcon, HF, stones, shuriken cannon, scatter laser
Fire prism, HF
Fire prism, HF

List thoughts: well, i dont play at 1850 at my local store, I play at 1500, so this was kind of tacking 350 points onto my 1500 list. The list performed okay, there were some obvious things that didnt work out. Bright lances were an incredible point sink that simply did nothing. I dont think I blew up one tank all day with them. The scropions really are no good in assault against dedicated assault units, and also seemed like a major point sink. Guardians on foot really just are no good in an all tank army lol, I always reserved them for fear of them dying incredibly quickly. But I needed the 3rd troop choice.

Game 1
Game 2
Game 3 & 4

Game 2:
Guard

CCS Chimera
Grey Knight Hero (dood with psy hood)

PBS Chimera
Ogryns 5 or 6

PCS with 4 flamers in chimera
30 man blob with 3 autocannons
Commisar, 3 power weapons (sgts, commisar, etc)

PCS with 4 flamers in chimera
30 man blob with 3 lascannons
Commisar, 3 power weapons (sgts, commisar, etc)

Melta vets in chimera
Melta vets in valkyrie

Devil dog

Mission was capture control (I messed up and read it as seize ground, didnt make a huge difference since we rolled 3 objectives, I found out after the game ended, everything else we did right as far as deployment, secondary, etc), deployment was DOW, and secondary was kill HQs.

I won roll off, chose to go first so I could put avatar at 50 yard line. He deployed both blobs.

Turn 1: I reserve guardians and bring everything else in turbo boosting. Fire prisms goto opposite corners, which you cant see in the pictures. Shooting is zero.

He brings everything in, his shooting is also nothing.

Turn 2: I get a little trigger happy and perhaps moved to quickly since in the end it doesnt pay off. Anyways, I tri-flamer the right blob and do some serious damage, but they hold. Scorpions tank is closing in eyeing the left blob. Shooting immobilizes the valk. Avatar blows up PCS chimera and all die but 1.

His turn hurts, wipes stormies off the board, blows up there tank as well. Assaults falcon, does some good damage, immoblizes it, and blows every gun off it but the shuriken cannon.

Turn 3: I make the biggest mistake of the game, pull edlrad + DA out to hurt the ogryns, and fail misserably. I think I kill 1 and 1 wound with doom. I believe last turn he emptied his melta vets from the valk and I flamered them tod eath with dragons. I assault ogryns to get rid of psy hood and do kill the GK, but also lose the rest of my squad lol.

He kills my dragons, He slowly picks away at my guardians in the back corner which unfortunatly arent in the picture, which netiher of the prisms are either. Both prisms went almost all game untouched, allthough they really didnt do anything either. His ogryns goto cock block my scorpions from getting out next turn.

Turn 4: He ends up being a very nice guy and lets me get my scorpions out on a d6 4+, altough technically they shouldnt have been able to since his ogyrns blocked me in. But I roll a 5 and they get out. Avatar blows up the devil dog heading towards my objective. Scorpions charge into left blob which turns out to be disatrous. The 3 PW attacks halve my squad, and I do minor damage back.

He continesu to pluck away my guardians. He gets his melta vets out of the left most chimera and lines them up in cover and on the objective. He also has another chimera with PCS on the other objective. He assaults my avatar with ogryns and PBS and kills his last wound off.

Turn 5: I make a silly mistake and dont flat out my fire prism to contest the center objective. I do manage to kill his left guards men and fail morale off the left objective. Im running out of guys and tanks, so I dont have much left to do. My scorpions die from the rest of the PW attacks in CC.

His blob moves onto the objective. He has secured the center objective. He stunned my right fire prism, so no contesting now if a turn 6 happens.

Turn 6: It does happen, and I cant contest since im stunned and the only tank without spirit stones.

He PBS my guardians off the back objective and gets a full massacre win.

Overall: things were going well in the first half, but you really feel the durability and longevity of guard even after doing so much damage he still had so much left. Not much I would change other than not getting eldrad out. I needed to put the heat on him otherwise he would have downed my tanks at range and id be toast walking. Simple case of better army, and better general.

Sad to hear that, though I assume he had quad flamers, and the chimeras had dual hull flamers?

Your opponent seemed like a nice enough guy!

Every chimera was multi laser HB.

Hmm....Maybe I was mistaken, after reading the dex it would seem you could only get 4. Updated post

Ah, still sad to hear that IG can take more flamers than us. QQ

Guards are a premier army, especially if run by a competent general. It was those damn guards who sunk my chances of advancing at the 'Ard Boyz. However, it doesn't seem as if either of your armies are really optimized. If I may make a comment, but a walking avatar seems a little out of place in a mechdar army, and who uses ogryns anymore? It appears his list has little ranged AT.
