So, I'm very new to this game as some of you know and I'm trying to decide on a tactic. I'm liking the way both Green Tide and Kan Wall look but it's hard for me to tell without knowing what an Army list would look like. Also, I've never played so I don't really know what to expect. I currently have the Orks from AoBR and a group of grots so I can really go with any of the Ork tactics. What Ork tactic do you guys play and why do you play it? If you don't play Orks (or even if you do) then what is the hardest Ork tactic you've come across?

I've actually played a mix of all 3 of the main Ork approaches - footsloggers, meks, and speed freaks. Well, primarily footsloggers+meks, but i've used deffkoptas from AoBR a couple of times lol.

Out of the 3 main Ork tactics, I read and hear speed freaks and green tide (separately, not together) are the 2 best ones, or at least the ones I see winning in tournaments. The Mek list could just not be being used in tourneys for whatever reason, possibly missions.

But I'm with you. My Ork list is a bit scattered. I've played handfuls of games w/ my orks using an inconsistent army list w/ mixed results. I'm still not sure which of the 3 I want to use and focus on. All 3 seem so tempting and cool! Damn Orks...

currently playing: ASoIaF | Warhammer 40k: Kill Team

other favorites:
FO:WW | RUMBLESLAM | WarmaHordes | Carnevale | Infinity | Warcry | Wrath of Kings

I used to have a bunch of trukk boyz squads hammer the lines. But Im moving into a more shooty Ork aspect (I have a fetish for FlashGits.....and I guess pain as well ) Ive even tossed around the idea of making some simple trukk boyz to basically be a suicide squad and either take out a dev squad or just tie up a unit/draw fire so the rest of the boyz can shoot the crap out of them.

I hear that kan walls are incredibly tough, and I can see why. The KFF bigmek does awesome things with that KFF, and makes them very hard to kill. Basically screening everything in your army until its ouch time.

Grots are only good at holding objectives, as they'res a million of them and going to ground makes it even more of a task to kill. But thats really it for their use, they dont do anything better. Yes they have a BS of 3 but the strength of their guns are very weak, so they are even worse at shooting then Orks in all reality.

Kan Walls are nasty, as is mech orks, because with the KFF, it makes all of your vehicles dead 'ard.

If money and time is a concern then I would go w mek as well...i found a place online that sold 3 bws for $125 i think...its been a while...so youll have less to paint as you cant field nearly as many boyz in a mek list...thats what i run right now...but im looking forward to getting all the stuff i need for meks and then moving on to another ork list!

I play Mechanized Orks, am a die hard ork fan, and would tell you that 12/15 army lists (except for lance spam DE, missile spam SW, mech IG leafblower type) will simply crumble before them. There are of course exceptions, but that's a good general rule.

Kan-Walls can be made very effective as well. My authority (or lack thereof) as an ork player is in my signature.

I was waiting for you to reply dash, lol. What does a good Mek Ork army look like? I'm able to find tactical definitions but current 5th edition army lists are hard for me to come by.

Up in your base, killin' all your doods.

I think that the Green Tide can do well if you can play it fast enough. Other than that, I like the Kan Wall. 4+ cover on everyone is awesome, and Kans are one of the best units in the codex. Some people might find it boring since its kind of spammy, but it fits my style well.

Go to the Army list forums. Press CTRL+F and type in: ork

There are plenty of ork lists; I comment and critique them regularly.

Inside a pretty, pretty pain cave... won't you come inside?

I run three basic lists and recommend them all (for fun, if not win/loss):

Kan Wall/Dread Bash: 9 kans, 2 dreads, and as many lootas and shoota boyz I can fit in.

Battlewagon Mech orks: 3-4 wagons, loads of trukks and buggies led by Ghazghkull, burnas, nobz

Speed Freeks: current favorite, 7-8 trukks of nobz/sluggas, burnas, 2 battlewagons, and Ghaz...

Orks are high on fun and character, plenty of good armies you can build.

I don't play Orks, but often play against them. So here's few things i don't like to face
Trukks loaded with 11 boys and a nob with powerklaw. 1 or two of those arent bad.. but 4-6 is lethal.
Deffkoptas with rockets. Scouts rule makes them unpredictable and those S8 shots can easily be pointed at the rear of my tanks
Zzap Gun Batteries can be really pain in the ... cheap and good AP tho slightly random. Not hard to kill but every shot i use to kill them leaves more boys alive to advance towards my lines.
Hopefully this helps even a little bit

Kan wall is pretty badass. 18 blast per turn is devastating. I personaly run hoard because I love the idea of a bottomless pit from which I can draw reinforcements.

Kan wall with a KFF can be very good. Its not to high in points to have 9 kans and 1-2 dreds. Plus you would have alot of points left, if your playing 1500 or 1850.

How do you go about keeping those 2 trukks alive?

Blast it wif dakka. If dat don't wurk den chopp it. If dat don't wurk den stomp it. If dat don't wurk den krump it. If dat don't wurk den zog off an leev it alown, cos da boyz won't be able tah kill it, and all da boyz'll end up bein ded.

I love ork-speak, you can actually feel yourself getting greener as you type it
