For damaged I use the knife to make cuts/shell holes in the areas I want and then add some boltgun metal and washes. I know some people jsut do streaks of silver for damaged but I prefer making actual damaged to the models... although its important not to overdo it. Mud I use PVA, sand, water and a drop of brown paint. Not tried to do rust as yet.

my technique for battle damage is to start with fine Black spots where you want the damage.
next a spot of some kind of Grey on dark colors, or a Red-Brown on light colors, in the middle of the Black...
then a fine reflective highlight under the chip using your lightest armor color...

for rust i stipple Red-Browns and Oranges...
maybe a wash of Vallejo Smoke...

for mud i stipple with Dark Browns...

hope that helps...

cheers

Your best bet for rust and mud are weathering powders/pigments, really.

if you have a old soldering iron one of the cheap pen like ones, you could use it to make melted holes like they were hit by a melta or las-cannon...

Here's how I do my mud:

http://www.kan.org/michael/mkp/weathering_mud.php

For rust, I like using some thinned Blazing Orange with Snakebite Bite Leather to wash/splotch selected areas followed by an application of weathering powders.

G'day - I did rust, mud and battle damage on this predator http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/30/244402.page, but the mud was simple:
- glue on flock or sand first
- undercoat black
- basecoat the mud a dark brown,
- then add lighter and lighter browns until you have the mud colour you were looking for.

Battle damage is also simple - nicks and cuts with your hobby knife, or creative melting using plastic glue .

best of luck!
