G'day Zerg - no, I have 2 painted 1ksons, and one DP. The only reason they werent on this blog was because I did them before I started! I'll post them here now (just for you!).

Cheers, and thanks for taking the time to look & comment!

G'day - a very small update as I am entirely too slow at painting.

Firstly, my World Eater Close Combat Dreadnaught. The head is part of the Defiler kit - this head was actually deformed (the lower jaw was a just a blob of plastic) - so I thought I couldnt find a use for it. I think its working ok in its new role.

The Chain-fists will count as CCweapons - I get the feeling this will be the dread I use more than others! I have one Black legion with ccw and autocannon, and will be doing an alpha legion with ccw and plasma cannon (later).

And base coated red:

And my first finished Alpha Legion meltagun chosen! Im really happy with how it turned out, but critical comments are always welcome. I tried my hand at a tiny amount of freehand - being the arrows at the bottom of the robes.

Cheers!

Wow. That Chosen is beyond awesome. I've always wanted robed CSM, and that shows how much of a good idea it is.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

The freehands are very neat, well done!!!

The yellow eyes add a weirdy-cranky touch to the model, they're great! And the conversion all in all is as above: neat & great!!!

Thanks Yggdrasil, Ive checked your Skaven, very cool! Love the greenstuff work youve done on these. I chose the yellow eyes, and the red tongues as a contrast to the cooler colours on the model.

Cheers Chese, glad you liked it. I actually got the idea from Mr Mansun who posted to an earlier thread I posted.

Hi folks, been a while (pc problems as well as real life interrupting).

Anyway, I have finally got my CC Dreadnaught completely painted & thought I should do an update! Cant wait to bring this guy out on the battle field... -

I also finally got around to finishing a second plague marine.

And I painted up an objective/stratagem for my cityfight games.

As always, comments and feedback, positive or negative are always appreciated.

Dread is awesome, Plague Marine needs some kind of highlight or something though.

Thanks infilTRAITOR, I wanted a headpiece on the DP/GreaterDeamon to make sure it was identifiable as a Thousand Son. Now If I could only get around to painting more of the actual sons...

Cheif Librarian Vaako wrote:Where do you get your dragon shoulderpads from? and could you please make a tutorial on how to make those scales.

The shoulder pads are ordered from GW - alpha legion pads - you get 10 of them, and I picked up 5 metal meltas guns as well (so Ive got 7 to play with including the 2 in the 2 Dark Angels Veterans Packs I bought).

They look really great!

Thanks mate, I like how they turned out too. So far as a tutorial, Its pretty easy, but I might as well give it a bash! Give me the weekend, I'll see what I can do.

Nice work on the models so far dude - very nice.

Could you tell me how you the the shaded red in the very first berserker pic? I am looking for a quicker way than I am doing atm. Is it just blood red with devlan wash or something?

Cheers

Cheers!

The Bezerkers use the following steps:
1) all over coat of mechrite Red foundation paint
2) good coat of devlan mud
3) heavy drybrush/overbrush of blood red
4) (optional) baal red wash (ties it all in really well!).

I actually forgot the baal red on the Dreadnaught, I dont think its suffered too much as a result (I think!).

I hope that helps.

Hi folks

Devastated that I missed the deadline for the painting comp, but looking at the fine entries, Im pretty confident that one of those very impressive entries would have won in any case! However, I did finish my entry tonight, and thought I should post it here in my P&M blog.

Background - this predator was a super cheap purchase from ebay - it wasnt painted well... So Ive stripped it and used it for this Chaos predator in a combination chaos legion. I was keen not to have spikes, but I wanted to convey the roughness of chaos.

Anyway, comments etc are appreciated.

Stripped version:

(PS guys, never strip with dettol - it clearly doesnt work well, and the smell hangs around for weeks! Plus it burnt a few holes, and crackd the surface. FOrtunately, thats what I was looking for!)

And I put this together:

Thanks mate - high praise from someone I consider a master of tank-wear!

The texture part of the mud is glue and crappy green flock (I had a heap left over after I went to a sand base, and had to use it for something) - messily applied, and then primed black, painted with a Khemri brown base coat, then a khemri/dheneb stone over brush, then drybush pure dheneb stone. I finally gave a quick final highlight of bleachd bone, and stippled bleached bone on some of the front spots as well.

Something I forgot to mention above, and You might not be able to see it too well, but I also used a hint/tip from a few months back - someone was posting on how to use standard glue to create rivets. I used a similar technique to create a 'bubbling' effect that you sometimes see under paint thats either rusted or gotten hot.

I'll crop one of the pics and make an edit here shortly (If I can get it to work)

(done)

Hard to tell from the pics, but I was happy how that turned out!

Yeah I did notice it. Thought it may have been a by-product of the stripping phase. But it works really well and adds an air of authenticity to the mini.

As for the mud, that's a rather simple yet effective way of going about it. You got the same sort of result I'd get using resin, plaster and pigments. My hat is tipped in your favour.

O H I am in the Webway...

This is all really great stuff! It makes me sad that I hate the new CSM codex... The models have so much potential...

Cheers - i was a bit dissapointed with how badly it got stripped, but all of the left-over paint, cracks and holes just added to the overall aging effect.

EzeKK wrote:This is all really great stuff! It makes me sad that I hate the new CSM codex... The models have so much potential...

Thanks for the kind words! Dont forget that GW will release a new one, maybe next year, maybe the year after, but someday. I personally like the codex - but without doubt it could be improved.

And a tip-o-the hat to you. I got the idea from an old WD.

Ive got the conversion bug again - Im going to do another Dreadnaught, this time an Alpha Legion one (meaning more GreenStuff Scales!). The existing cheap ebay dread is soaking in nailpolish remover as we speak...

Great stuff here, love the Alphas and I was planning on adding them as a Chosen unit to my Chaos army when I get round to it. Will reference your work on the shoulderpads when I get around to putting them together and painting them up.

I love your work especially the scales on the alpha legion. My only complaint is consistancy with your work. What I eman by this and it should not be taken as an insult is that you did such clean beautiful work on the khorne and especially on the alpha legions, but on the thousands sons It almost kinda fell to the waste side in quality compared to your other work. This is only a minor observation though and I really do love the work.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Thanks Natorum - I really like how the chosen work as a unit. I play a lot of city fight, so infiltrating close can be a great option, and when you have a 10 man squad with 5 meltas in cover, enemy tanks can be afraid to advance, or they pour loads of fire directly into them. leaving the Rhinos plenty of time to close in. Let me know when you paint up your alpha's and I'll be sre to check them out!

And thank you Empchild - this is a Blog, and I appreciate polite criticism as much as praise! Im not quite 'there' on the 1ksons yet - I actually painted them before the Plague marines and the Zerkers, so I think my skills are improving overall. As such, I may revisit those 1ksons, as they are definately a 'lower table top' standard than the Khorne AC's. Quick questions - do you think the sons 'need something' (highlighting etc) or do they just need to be 'neater'? Anyway, thanks for the kind words and the input!

Cheers

G'day, just a quick update with some greenstuff scales stuff Ive been trying - on a Dreadnaught. So far its just Dreadnaught pieces, but I think its coming along well.

Ive swapped out the head/face of the dread too, but I havent put up a photo yet, I think I want to keep that a mystery for now...!

Comments and criticisms as always are welcome!

And the start of my Alpha Legion Rhino - this will be a long way coming, but its all fun.
