Trying to build a semi-competative tournament army. I have not played in a tournament since 3rd edition, so basically I have no idea what I am doing. I appreciate any help or recommendations. Meks will ride with Nobs.

HQ

Big Mek, KFF, BossP
Big Mek, KFF, BossP

Troop

(x6) 12 Boys, Nob PK BossP, Truck

Elite

10 Lootas
(x2) 3 MegaNobs, 1Skorch, Truck RRam

Heavy

(x3) 3 Kans with Rokkits

1992 points total.

Cannock

HQs are all sound but you don't need the bosspoles because the meks will be in the trukks and the nobz have bosspoles.

Trukk should have at least amount of points invested in as possible but a excellent orky upgrade is a boarding plank - saves you getting out the trukk so smack a tank putting yourself at risk.

Double your loota unit and drop the meganobz as they're not hard to stop in a trukk.

Kanz will fall behind the trukks. Drop these and get some deffkopters. Use the deffkopters to storm ahead and wreck some armour so your trukk boyz can roll up and get stuck in; however don't expect 12 boyz to last long.

Sorry, I ment to say the Meks are in the trucks with the Mega Nobz, since they dont have a Boss Pole. My plan was to shield with the Kans, grouping the trucks behind them together to take advantage of the KFF. Then after turn 1 run the trucks up full speed and try to get stuck in. However Deffkopters would make it a very fast army, I will ponder that. Thanks!

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

Trukks with reinforced rams and boarding planks would be good. Since you want to run a KoS, you should drop the killa-kans and stick a battlewagon in there. While I disapprove of meganobs in general, if you insist on taking them (instead of regular nobs, which can be diversified for survivability), take a warboss instead of a second KFF so that you can take them as a troop choice.

Also, welcome back to 40k - we're in 5th edition now, which is heavily mechanized. Every addition to your list should come with the thought, "How does this help my anti-tank, or if it doesn't, what am I adding elsewhere to help." You need to be able to take on mechanized lists, which most tournament lists are now; boarding planks on your trukks will help. Lootas help, but 10 man Loota units are a mistake; 5/15 are the way to go. Perhaps take a 15 man Loota unit AND a 5 man Loota unit.

I feel like I should be typing more, but we need to get you on a solid theme before trying to fine-tune it.

I want to run a bunch of trucks for sure, but I didnt want to just run a KoS army. I know this will hurt me in the fluff category, if there is one, but I am ok with that for now. I thought the Kans would be good because I could hide my trucks behind them on the first turn and receive the cover in conjunction with the KFF protecting the Kans. I also love the fact that the Kans have BS3. But after turn 1 the trucks would speed past the Kans and all that would be out the window, I just dont know if its worth the 1 turn cover.

The only reason I have Mega Nobs in there is because I had 8 of those models from when I played in the past.

I am going to modify this list... Dropping the Kans, 1 of the Meks, and MegaNobs. Adding more Lootas, Warboss, and Battlewagon, I will try to add rams and planks to the trucks as well.

Kans cannot block line of sight to a trukk.

And the trukks get 4+ cover ANYWAY because of the presence of the KFF.
