Starting to build an army for a Tourney later in the year and I am going with Orks. Missions are the 3 rulebook ones with the objective one being set at 5 objectives.

HQ

Big Mek w KFF - 85

Elite

Burna Boyz x10 - 150

Lootas x6 - 90

Troops

Boys x11 (Slugga)
Nob w PK and Bosspole x1
Trukk w Armour Plates - 157

Boyz x11 (Shoota) 1x Big Shootas
Nob w PK x1
Trukk with Armour Plates - 157

Boyz x11 (Shoota) 1x Big Shootas
Nob w PK x1 - 165
Trukk with Armour Plates - 157

Fast

Deffkoptas x2 - 70

Heavy

Battlewagon
1 Big Shoota, Armour Plates, Deff Rolla, RPJ - 130

Big Shootas in wagons to give it something to prevent immobilized on a Weapon destroyed. 1 Boyz and the Burnas in a wagon each. Burnas get Big Mek.

Simple list I guess, but is it going to work? I am honestly a marine player and i've never put orks on a table, and whilst I will tweak this list and such from some playtesting, I'd prefer not to spend money on models I will not use. Any tips will be appreciated.

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

First question:

Is it seriously a 1,000 point tournament with a mandatory 5 objectives?

If it *IS* you might want to reconsider going, because that is absolutely ludicrous.

Second, shootas and big shootas in a unit in a battlewagon is a mistake.

1. You move your battlewagon 6" per turn so that the shootas can fire. You don't need a battlewagon for this.

2. You move your battlewagon 12" per turn to get closer to combat, and fire nothing. Then shootas are a mistake.

Any shaken result will stop you from shooting them anyway.

With two mobs of boyz and a burna unit and a KFF and a battlewagon.....where is everything supposed to go? You can only put 20 models into a battlewagon and you have two mobs of 20, a full trukk and no place for the KFF or the burnas unless one of those mobs is going on foot. If that's the case, mixing foot slogging and mech is a mistake. If you want to play mechanized orks at 1,000 points, I would take one battlewagon, put the KFF and burnas in it, and use several trukks on either side supported by some Lootas in the backfield for anti-transport duty, with a Deffkopta or two if I have the points for it.

Updated the original list to include what you mentioned. The tourney itself is hosted by GW in my area and is free to enter, thus why I am entering.

Few questions, how survivable are the boyz? Should I keep them together to gain the 4+ cover from the Mek (The trukk getting the 4+ i mean), spread them where needed or play them depending on the situation? Do they all need a bosspole? Do none of them need a Bosspole? Should I have Rokkits instead of big shootas?

Also with the Deffkoptas, Outflank or scout move them? Or adapt to the opponents army?

Any other tips that I should try to save myself abit of the learning curve that comes with learning a new army?

Thanks for all the help

The mek doesnt give the boys a 4+ cover save, he gives them a 5+, the force field creates a 5+ cover for legged models, but a 4+ for vehicles since it counts them as obscured, it was GW lazy way of going around the whole "a vehicle must be more then 50% concealed...." and grant them a save.

Seperate the deffkoptas, function far better as individual units, they NEED TLR and/or Buzzsaw to pop your enemies vehicle, if you dont have the points, gak can one kopta and replace as upgrades. TLR has a good range to pop vehicles, and a str 7 on a charge turn one is always fun with buzzsaw... either wise, spot on.

W/D/L/ A(a= Annihilated beyond doubt)

Orks =44/2/9/2 15k+ pts (assembled/broken)
Black Templar= 4/1/2/1 3k 2k pts (assembled)
