After much internal debate and advice from dashofpepper, and others. I have decided to run a heavily themed army, speed freakz style.

This list focuses on the boyz, and getting them dug in to combat. no special chars, as i would like to write my own fluff. i dont think anyone will accuse me of powergaming, which is nice as im a new player. I started with the boyz, and added support from there. not trying to do it too fancy, trying to use proven units for effectivness.


{EDIT} After dashofpeppers post I took some time to consider his comments, this list needs some elite close combat ability to deal with other cc oriented lists. It also needs something to better protect the lone wagon. Duly noted, took some time to rethink it, below I have changed the list. As always, criticism is welcome.

HQ
Big mek, Kff
Warboss, pk, cybork

Elite
2 units of 5 lootas

Fast Attack
3 units of 1 deffkopta, buzzsaw and twin linked rokkits

Troops
1 unit of 12 boyz, nob with pk and bosspole, trukk with reinforced ram and plank
19 gretchin with 1 herder
19 boyz, nob with pk and bosspole
8 diversified nobz , painboy, 2 pk, 4 burnas, waaghpole, other various upgrades
Heavy support
2 battlewagons, deffrolla, grabbin claw, big shoota and plank.


This list borrows a lot of aspects from dashofpeppers tournament lists. the mechanized portion charges forward to get stuck in asap, 2 small units of lootas fire from the back field, making the enemy choose whether or not to shoot at the transports or the small units of lootaz. grotz holding home base objectives, again do you bother with shooting at the grotz while the mech rolls at you. kff riding in the battlewagon to give cover saves to all the vehiculars, koptaz tying up long ranged fire power or popping open armor with a alpha strike.

{Edit} I feel like this list is very orthodox, taking the best parts of what seem to be effective tournament lists, using the ork codex for 2 of its biggest "op" items, the kff and diversified nobs, in wagons. I normally try to buck the system, but in this case I'm going to follow the leader.

one change i could make that i see is to drop one deff kopta in favor of a unit of warbikes. i can take 3 with a power claw or 4 without. sounds tasty to me. thoughts?

Eternal Plague

I highly advise taking an additional Battlewagon. One is not enough of a threat and will be shot to ribbons being the only general threat your list poses to an enemy list. Lists tend to do better with more battlewagons for target saturation.

Drop the gretchin for now and throw in an extra battlewagon and some more boyz. If possible, sacrifice an additional trukk to do so. You could also remove a sole deffkopta to achieve such an aim and still keep a minimal gretchin squad in reserve for objective grabbing.

Make sure the trukk boyz have sluggas and choppas and the battlewagon boyz have shootas.

Red paintjobs all around can be useful.

As for bikers, the low point cost of this army makes them hard to field if you with to add a dedicated unit of them to your army. A minimal 3-4 are probably only going to be used for tank or MC hunting. Throwing them at hordes would be silly.

You may want to add a few things to the Big Mek to make him a bit more menacing, such as a powerklaw and cybork body.

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

Ug....if that's borrowing heavily from my tournament lists, you picked up all the wrong aspects!


An opponent sitting down across you sees two things: A trukk with Boyz in it and a battlewagon with boyz in it. That's it. At 1500 points, that's the extent of your core army. A couple units of small Lootas, triple deffkoptas, a large gretchin unit....but your menacing ability is limited to a trukk full of boyz and a battlewagon full of boyz.

Ah. I just realized that was FOUR units of 12 boyz; or 5 total vehicles. I was about to get out my calculator.

1. What about tyranids? They're I4 and have as many models as you do - and their MCs shrug off your boyz. What's your answer to *ANY* kind of tyranid army? Swarm of MCs?

2. What about land raiders? Think your deffrolla will survive across the field very often to deliver it?

3. What about Space Wolves? They're seemingly designed around missile launchers and nasty close combat units.

Boyz are great - but I don't think you have a solid take all comers list. No nobs, no meganobs, no Ghazghkull, no burnas....nothing to deal with nasty close combat units of any kind of nids.

I dunno, I figured slam into them with a bunch of power claws and let the rest sort itself out. Nobz are easy to include but do I put them in another wagon ? Its about 400 points for a wagon and nobs, 500 with a warboss

When I figured I was borrowing heavily I was refering to a mechnized core of vehicles with grots as objective grabbers and lootas/koptas as support. I could easily change this over into 3 battle wagons, 2 with boyz 1 with nobz. Maybe that's the way to go.
