GOD you're so cool.

The Shining is one of the best horror movies ever made. It does not fit the book (which is one of my most favourite) but the movie just oozes style.

can we add thrillers?

What Lies Beneath

Jacob's Ladder

The Last Winter (too good....minus the CG near the end)

The Fourth Kind...scared the bejesus feht out of me.

Oh I can feel the ... but The Blaire Witch Project. If you disagree, that is fine. But I have a powerful imagination, and I love putting myself into a story, and that movie is terrifying. Even if you hate it, it started a genre. Also, I classify the majority of people who disliked BWP as people who enjoy Michael Bay movies.

Sheesh,where to start?

...Of course Romeros' first 3 zombie films (Night,Dawn & Day of the Dead) would top my personal list .

Followed by the Exorsist,Jaws and the first 2 Omen films...the third Omen film was gak.

I'm not a real fan of Horror, but I do like Aliens and Aliens 2. I also like Shaun of the Dead, even though it's a Black Comedy.

I love hellraiser, they don't scare me but Pinhead is the finest of villains and has some amazing lines. I do enjoy the Clive Barker books that I've read as well.

I love Alien and Aliens, not sure if they're horror 'exactly' but they are very cool.

The Only film that's scared me as an adult was Ju-On, the original Japanese film that was remade to The Grudge in the US. I watched it in the middle of the night in a galeforce storm more than a bit drunk and the attic was making lots of weird noises.

Jaws, the original film, is probably my all-time favourite film. I don't see it as horror though, dunno what I'd classify it as.

Zombie films, I enjoy them but frankly they are the purvey of Mrs Stompa who is a bit of a zombie fan.

Of the original list:

John Carpenter's The Thing- A late night TV favorite- Great for the time, but some of the special effects/puppet works could do with updating.

Alien - It has really, really grown on me and I went and watched it at the cinema last year when it was re-released.

Suffolk, where the Aliens roam.

Aye Hellraiser is up there, pretty much all of them.

Silent Hill is one of my faves all all time, and probably only a handful of game to movie conversions that was actually good.

Alien is really good. (Aliens to me is an action flick, a damned good one, but not a horror.)

Zombie films are always a fun watch, although some of the remakes with their pesky running zombies spoil the fun. That zombie newborn was nasty though. Probably original Dawn is my fave, partially why I liked Dead Rising so much.

A lot of the Stephen King films have been passable, although Graveyeard Shift, It (looking forward to the remake, hope they don't murder it,) The Shining, The Fog, Dreamcatcher and The Mist stand out for me, although the ending of Mist still bloody annoys me.

Deep Star Six was creepy, but underwater horror tends to freak me out. Deep Rising as well, trapped on water, one of those fears for me.

Nightbreed is one of my fave films ever, wish it'd get a remake.

Tremors series, although not sure how much of a horror series it really is, good fun though.

Then some weirdier films I've liked, mainly thanks to the Horror channel in the UK, because I'd have never have seen them otherwise. Stuff like, Night of the Creeps, Pumpkinhead, The Vineyard, the Leprechaun series (yay Warwick Davis) The Devil's Rejects (Sid Haig is just such an awesome villian,) House of 1000's Corpses and many more.

Huge +1 to the Christopher Lee Hammer films,as a child growing up Christopher Lee WAS Dracula to me,great films.

I also must add the original Halloween, though it kicked off a long line of crap imitators (and some terrible sequels),it was quite a nicely done suspence/horror film in it's own right.

@ MGS

I also consider Jaws to be one of the best movies ever made,I include it in the "Horror" movie genre simply because IMO it contains all the key elements of a great horror film...plus...what could be more horrifing than being devoured by a 25 foot shark?
BTW, I found this little note you may find interesting.

I don't really "enjoy" horror, but the one that freaked me out the most was the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
