Any players around here?

If so, how long have you been playing and please share your experiences.
I've picked it up long after AOG went out of business, around 2006 or so.

I played a while ago, but it's kind of dead these days. The few survivors are located at b5wars.net

Fleet Action was pretty fun and a system that I liked, but I haven't played it in years. I haven't played B5 wars in even longer and I never played very many games of it.

Its a shame really, I've got 3 Fleet action fleets just hanging around not getting used.

Technically, it had several: 3 incarnations of starship games(in varying sizes) and an RPG.

From what I understand, it's a cleaned up version of Starfleet Battles.

B5 Wars was my fave just for all the boxes you ticked off as you fired at one another. Although as a Narn player even I felt energy mines where criminally overpowered.

I currently own ACTA, which has a lot of things in it that remind me of BFG. I do enjoy the odd game, buts its down on the sixth or seventh choice for a wargame these days sadly.

From what I saw of it it was in a similar vein (I.E. based around ships with lots of boxes and individual system) but I don't think it had quite the massive amount of 'legalese' in the rules. I don't like SFB, but I appreciate that the rules are clear and nearly-completely free of loopholes if not particularly fun (to me).

The Mongoose version, A Call to Arms, was more heavily influenced by BattleFleet Gothic. it had a number of faults as well, like a lot of fiddling over the 3+ editions to try and get fighters 'feeling' right in the setting.

If you liked FA, the rules for FA2 are available on b5wars.net (turning point section), as well as the sheets for the EA, Narn and Centauri fleets. Minbaris should be available Sometimes Soon™.

Where abouts are they, I had a hunt through the forum but can't find the rules.

I played a demo game of this a couple years ago at the Games Matrix store in Tacoma, WA. I thougth it was interesting enough to pick up a used rulebook off Ebay, but I haven't played since then. I remember that it was a different style of game than what I was used to with BFG, since it is one or two ships on each side instead of fleets.

It's in the Turning Point section, but you might as well go to richbax.com to directly get the FA2 files, including rulebook.

Well, 8 years ago, it would have been real easy to answer, but these days...
When AoG folded, they had 2 lines of minis :
Full scale (ie. Real big) minis were bought by Mongoose and produced till lost the license recently, so they shouldn't be too hard to find. On the other hand, they're probably too big for a fleet engagement.
Fleet Action scale minis (think Epic) weren't bought by Mongoose, but were supposedly about to re-released by Iron Wind Metals, unfortunately, I think the deal fizzled out when Mongoose lost the license.
I'd say your best chance is to go ask on the b5wars.net boards, they know stuff on that site...

From what I understand about the game - the original B5Wats was very much designed as a single ship vs single ship simulation and apparently covers this extremely well but gets quite slow with larger actions unless you are very familiar with the game. There was a lot of good background done by AOG for the universe.

ACTA by Mongoose Publishing used some of this background and the larger scale vessels - which it expanded upon considerably until it ddi not renew the licence fairly recently. If you are looking for ships they can run to be quite expensive but also check out the MGP forum under other minature games.

ACTA is fast paced and reletively simple game to play (not always to master) and has a lot of the good bits from Battle Fleet Gothic.

A couple of the local game stores here in northern VA still have B5 minis on the shelf, actually.

There are some sellers on ebay of B5 wars but try to check under B5 A Call to Arms or Wars for the search.

Had a look on eBay but the cost is a bit steep. Have tried registering on b5wars.net but never got the activation e-mail through :(

Also if you check out the old AOG site there is a guy there who still sells the remaining stock.

There are also a number of people selling here:
