So my brushes all gave out tonight.. not to surprising as they are a few years old.. however I work a full shift at my Adminstartum job tomorrow (S-Bux sucks my SOUL!!) sacrificing psykers to the emperor all day in the form of espresso shots.. so my LFGS is out of the question, however Micheals is a hop skip and a jump away.

What do you all use when not using Citadel brushes? Does anyone but me only use Citadel stuff?

I've always had a soft spot for Loew-Cornell [sp?] red sable brushes when shopping at Michael's...
I usually only get them when I've got a coupon, and have been buying predominantly Citadel & Army Painter brand brushes from the LGS for the last 6-ish months [less of a drive, you know], so I can't really tell you how much they're going to set you back, though if memory serves me [it usually doesn't, but...] they won't be much more than what you're used to? But they have never let me down...

Cool I will check them out. I just realized as I was working on my Marine Bikes, that I was doing details with a bunch of dry brushes.

Worth every cent if you wanting to go that way, otherwise I find the Citadel Brushes satisfactory.

I've been using the same roymac sable brushes for the last 5-6 years. They cost me less than the GW ones and have lasted longer (I got given a couple of GW brushes from a mate in a GW store once).

Haven't tried the newer brushes.
Although whomever gave them the idea to sell "drybrushes" was onto a goldmine - for decades, people have just used crappy old paintbrushes that are no longer useful for the main job for this.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

I've never used a citadel brush in my life.

I use brushes that come in the model airplane paint kits or something like that, they have a white handle with black bristles they work great for me after I modify them to have a nice point.

Yeah when my brushes get kinda old, I cut the bristles in half get the brush wet and then dry brush a piece of cardboard to get the nice feather... problem is what do you do with 6 dry brushes???

I will have to give all these companies a once over, seems that now is the perfect time, Micheals is having a clearance sale!

There is a similar topic posted about once a week - you will find several suggestions by using search function.

I have recently come across Rosemary & Co. Pure Kolinsky Sable brushes. Very good quality for very affordable price.

That place is the harsh dark future far left with only war left.

I have the citidel paint brush range for my special needs like drybrushing, washing stippiling.

But normally, I use cheap non-brand brushes of varying size for the basic stuff.

Citidel "very fine" brushes are really big compared to some of the non-braders that I use for details.

Surely someone should start a poll and then write the results up in an article?

We could all snidely refer to it then when this questiopn comes up

My personal tastes are for Rosemary & Co., but I've used W&Ns, even the cheaper ones are nice brushes. In a pinch I've gotten fine results from Daler Rowney cheapo brushes.

My brushes are all a mix of Loew-Cornell, Sax, Contemporary Crafts, and a 10 piece detail set from Daler Rowney. The detail set costs less than 5 bucks at Walmart, if I recall correctly.

Such great info guys thanks. And to set the record straight I always start of by using the search forum before I post, however it seems that I missed what I was looking for this time.

Anyway I am armed with sufficient information to make an educated purchase. Many Thanks.
