Hey guys,
I was just reading a thread that essentially got necro'd... but rather than it being some random just writing "I agree", a few people had actually added decent points (and imo just enhanced the discussion). Why are necro'd threads indiscriminately blasted on sight? Surely it's much easier to post on an existing thread than just make a new one (and thus lose aforementioned points)?
Not saying necro'ing is never bad, however...

For me it depends on how long it has been since the last posting, if anything constructive can/has been added, and if the OP has restarted it (this is a key point in the Painting forums).

For instance, P&M blogs. I don't think the mods generally close P&M blogs, am I correct?
I sure hope not when I update my Eldar thread after a year and a half

I think the question is usually: "would closing this thread and starting a new one that links to it be more or less confusing than suddenly having a fairly active, but old, thread appear on the front page."

I support Thread Necroing only if the post necroing it includes "IT'S ALIVE!" in it.

That was the thread that prompted me to make this one, I don't understand why it was closed.

Henners, hats off to you mate, you always manage to make the most disinteresting topic into a multi page epic.
Are you the type of guy that writes letters of complaint to TV channels instead of just TURNING IT OVER?!!?

Is there some guide in the forum rules ( I haven't read them in a while ) as to how long you have to continue a thread? For instance, lets say I have a thread in OT called " I like apples". I either said what I came to say or forgot about it for say six months, then I find out some interesting fact about apples I want to share. Is it necrothreading if I post in that old thread?

If it was a short thread without a ton of replies, probably not.
The problem is that usually when a person raises a thread, it's into multiple pages, and so a lot of readers are shocked that a massive thread appeared while they were away. It can also make people read through pages and pages of posts to reach your new facts.
What's just better for everybody is to post a thread like "I still like apples", like to the old thread, and then post your new stuff.
