Terra is earth but it has no oceans. All wild life are gone. The entire planet is basically dead. Due to thousands of wars the entire planet shows no similarities to our earth.

I's a Hive World (an ecumenoplolis, in fact). The entire globe is pretty much smoothed flat and covered in one contiguous, self-enclosed arcology. The population is many tens of billions.
The Imperial Palace isn't so much 'in the Himalayas'. It'd be more accurate to say that the Palace is where Asia used to be. It occupies most of the continent.
One Square Meter of land on Terra costs more than an entire palace on any other world in the Imperium.
The Golden throne, wherin the Emperor is interred is tens of miles bellow what were once the Himalayas. Although in older versions of the game, it was said to be in Nottingham (where Games Workshop is based).
The atmosphere is utterly polluted, there is no life outside the hives, and no water.
Terra is surrounded by orbital fortresses and the Moon (Luna) is the main port for Battlefleet Solar - the greatest naval fleet of the Imperium.
Mars is a Forge-World. The spiritual home of the Adeptus Mechanicus and center of the Machine cult.
Saturn's moon Titan is the home of the Inquisition's Ordo Malleus.

actually the continents are still visable as a noticable change in the height of the buildings from space.
new jersey and the entire eastern sea board of Ancient (A)Merica is a waste refinement plant.
the Administratum is located where England used to be.
all of the Biomass that used to be natural life is locked away as humans or vermin that scuttle throughout the dingy undercity.
But don't worry, much of terran life forms were transplanted to other worlds prior to it becoming this way so you can still find most of the common types of Terran animal and plant life on other planets.
IIRC: there was still visable mountains and some areas of life when the Emperor began the Unification wars.

Not terribly, all (nearly) water is recycled naturally if you think about it.

In Inquisition War, by Ian Watson, Imperial citizens who get killed by a genestealer uprising get mulched down and processed into food.

when people, or anyother living thing, die in a Hive city. their bodies and all the organic waste products get sent to processing plants where they are refined into drinking water and food, presumably through Nanotech reassembling.
it is an idea that isn't that far off. think how useful that would be on Space ships and on distant planets that don't have a sustanable ecosystem established yet.

well, they eat the same organic matierial that may have used to be a man.
it happens all the time now. organic matierial and water get reused and recycled.
Man dies.
Bactieria decompose the body and leave minerals and nutrients as waste.
Plants bring up the minerals and some nutrients to build their own plant structures.
Cow eats plant.
man eats cow.
cycle continues.

Well, its not like all the food they get is recycled human (actually on this site is the first I've ever seen that claim) - its a certainty that Terra actually imports the vast majority of its food - and certainly, there exists all manner of animals utilized for food production all across the Imperium for it.
Per the thread'd actual question, 'Terra' is indeed Earth - it is actually the Latin (ancient Roman) name for the Earth.
