I'm seeing them at Sonisphere UK festival. My... 5th or 6th time seeing them now, and I can't wait!

I really think it`s gonna be great though, especially if they play Dance of Death and Paschendale
Oh, BTW, do anyone know if Dream Theather is going to open in Norway too?
European support remains unconfirmed. Dream Theater is unlikely though I am afraid.
Has anyone heard the second track of Final Frontier? El Dorado? I am loving it currently...
Oh and I think I'll just leave this here:

@Cheesecat. I think it's different, and seeing 'alien Eddie' is quite a shock, but at the same time I appreciate the album cover for what it is, a piece of fantastic artwork!

AND NO POWERSLAVE?
My thoughts pretty much. Benjamin Breeg and Brighter than a thousand sons are a waste of minutes and need cutting to be replaced by 2 Minutes to midnight, aces high and the trooper.

Like I said, I'm happy with a set list focused on new material. I've seen them several times before, and as good as Maiden is, they're not exactly a band that spends much time on improv. If you've seen them do Powerslave once, you've seen them do Powerslave, and it's not going to change if they do it again.
On the other hand, I haven't seen them do Paschendale, Benjamin Breeg, or anything from the new album yet...
I think you take a rather single sided view on alot of Maiden's 'best and biggest songs'. Of course I will admit perhaps some older fans would prefer newer material, I agree, they've played them alot, but at the same time I have seen the trooper five times and I am still not bored of it! I also think, as Maiden themselves admit in all their DVD releases, that their fanbase is getting progressively younger and that there will be alot of people (young and old) on this current tour for whom it will be their first Iron Maiden show and so should hear a few more older songs, like the trooper added to Maiden's setlist. In the same line of your argument, I've seen them play Paschenale before. Does this mean they should take that off the setlist since I'm sure everyone who attended the Death on the road tour will have seen it? I think not. All the same, Maiden have no bad songs and any setlist from them remains a good setlist .

Redbeard wrote:The last tour they did, all of what, one or two years ago, was nothing but older material. I'm not saying that they shouldn't play anything older, but for people who say "they've got to play The Trooper", no, they don't. They've played it a million times and the concert isn't bad because they skipped that one song.
Besides, if you take that mentality - they've got to play X - how many people's favourites do you have to account for?
Here's a list of songs that could all be considered "must haves":
Number of the Beast
The Trooper
Hallowed Be Thy Name
Iron Maiden
Sanctuary
Run to the Hills
2 Minutes to Midnight
Powerslave
Wasted Years
Can I Play With Madness
The Clairvoyant
Fear of the Dark
And I'm probably missing a couple...
Compare that to the track listing of Flight 666 - almost all of those tracks are on it. More than half of them are on Death on the Road. More than half (and not all the same) are on Rock In Rio. More than half are on A Real Live/Dead one. More than half are on Live After Death.
I mean, this is the same block of songs that they've been doing live, every tour, for 25 years. What's more, if you can do a show with 16 songs, and you have to do those same 14 (or even ten of those 14), what room does that leave to do the new stuff?
At some point, they're just crushed by the weight of all the nostalgia. If they do The Trooper, someone is going to ask why they didn't do Number of the Beast. Or why they didn't do Run To The Hills.
You know what happens to bands that only play oldies? They do small town summer festival shows and reunion gigs - or they turn into the Stones, an old, empty shell of former glory.
Every old song they do is one new tune they don't get to do. And yeah, we all like that older stuff, it's classic. But that's what they did last time around. As musicians, they want to show off their current stuff. And as a fan, that's what I want to see.
Aye I do see your points Redbeard, and all the 'mus haves' you mentioned were on the Somewhere Back In Time world tour. I guess I wasn't saying 'They need to play the trooper' as you say, but everyone will have a few 'wishlist songs' to make alterations to the new setlist, and those three I mentioned were mine I guess. But do we agree they are among the best bands in the world for sure whatever they play?
