Thinking of Joining a Davinite Loge

Hello there!

I have a company worth of marines that I have started painting. The color scheme is red and my chapter name will be the Blood Hammers.

I really enjoy playing Salamanders and Blood Angels and have a few lists for both armies. I was wondering if anyone would have any ideas on how to merge these two types of armies fluff wise into a self made chapter. One idea is a Salamander successor chapter that has some squads who are extremely faithful to the emperor and over zealous at times. This would represent the red thirst when I play Blood Angels. The death company could be marines who are so indoctrinated by the chapter doctrine that they are zealous to the point of insanity.

Any comments, suggestions, and ideas will be appreciated!

Thanks

I have not read a great deal of Salamander fluff but from what I have seen (and heard in the recent audio release) they have a thing about branding themselves. They seem to need the pain to atone for perceived failings and to focus themselves. It does seem that successor chapters often differ from their progenitors by exaggerating some of their traits. Perhaps the Blood Hammers have a highly developed need for pain and their "Death Company" represents those brothers who have gone too far down that road and can only find what they need in battle. May be a bit too Slaanesh for comfort, but then that could provide interesting potential inquisitiorial interest.

The whole fast moving vehicle thing could represent the interests of their original founder and forge father. Likewise the use of melta and flame pistol technology.

That is a very interesting take!

Any more thoughts or comments anyone?

You could always make them a blood angels successor chapter. I very much agree on the later foundings seem to focus on specific traits of their original founders. The blood hammers could be so zealous and bloodthirsty that their companies regularly go on "purge" Campaigns when they have recruited enough new members. Making them prove themselves in one suicidal rampage after another to prove themselves worthy of the chapter and in the emperors eyes. Laying waste to all aliens, heretics and imperial outposts found lacking in faith. Due to this behavior they might be stationed more near extreme reaches of the Imperium so as not to cause too much collateral damage to Imperial interests. Or even currently under scrutiny from the inquisition to make sure this overzealousness isn't the red thirst at work.

Hope you find this useful!

Anyone else?

Blood Angels successor or Salamanders Successor?

I do play both armies but like the idea of having fluff for only 1 chapter.

Those are really your options. I guess you could go with an Ultramarine successor, but that wouldn't make any sense in terms of fluff. Chapters only came from the, and short of building off of the non-existant "dissapeared" legions, your options are SW, BA, Salamanders, RG, Ultra, DA, White Scars, Iron Hands, or Imperial Fists

I need to vote to change the name. Blood Hammers just sounds like it's a name being dragged across shards of glass.

Hmmm..... blood and fire.

Why not call them the "Blood Brands"?

The fluff would be easy:

Blood Angels successor chapter.
Realize that the sight and temptation of blood must be averted. Remedy: Use weapons that burn, cauterize or crush the enemy and create minimal blood in the crucible of war. Flamers, melta's and thunderhammers are preferred. Like the Blood Angels and Salamanders they create works of art of their weapons.

Reasonable fluff I think?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Everyone raise their hand that want to use the Blood Angels Codex and field certain miniatures to substitute and scream "BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!!"

There is very little that could not be made from Khorne space marines. Heck, I am just now thinking the unholy parts swaps may work very well...

Sorry Fafnir, not changing the name. I really like the name and think that it captures elements of both chapters that I love. The Blood obviously from Blood Angels and the hammer represents the forge which is very Salamanders like.

Talizvar, i like your idea. It is a different spin on the red thirst.

Anymore ideas?

I'm not saying anything about the idea it captures, I'm just saying it doesn't sound very pleasing to the ear.

I mean, it's definetly not the worst name for a chapter. I mean, it's not like you're calling them something stupid like "Ultramarines," but I'm just saying I'm not a fan of the name.

You can say that they consider lava as the blood of the earth and that all great works are born from blood.

Rules wise Blood Angels seems the better choice but thats not what your asking for.

If you like the idea of you army as more of the freedom fighter type then Salamanders but if your thinking of an army thats war crazied or is a merge of the two then blood angels is the safer bet. sort of like the Knights of Blood.

I love the name and that is an awesome red vulkan for your profile pic. Maybe you could say that they took the idea of making their own stuff from the Salamanders and took it too far, to show their blood angel ties (I vote for a Salamander-successor chapter). The reason they fight so fanatically is that they see battle as the forge of worlds, the place where legends and empires are pounded by the great hammer that is the Blood Hammers!
