What would you pay for high quality terrain? Like basically what you would find at a good tournament or shop.

I mean a full board with modular terrain.

I want to get a table for myself, one "Field" for fantasy, with hills and trees and such.

And one urban ruins.

There are a couple of people around that builds it, and I am thinking about getting some for my garage campaigns that I want to start running.

To be honest? Start by making a shopping list of GW stuff. That way you have a maximum price to work from, as if it gets more expensive for custom, buy off the peg.

Hope that helps.

I think MDC definitely makes a fantastic point. Unless you really really want 100% custom work, base much of your costs on what a GW equivalent would cost. Painted of course will cost more than this, but it's at least a good start.

Too bad I'm not in the area any longer or I'd help you build it for nothing :p.

I won't pay more than 90$. It's so cheap to build a good battlefield. Look at my gallery http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-9891-6419_Board%20Game.html and you'll see a gametable that cost less than 60$, and I think it's a good board.

I would go with what the Mad Doc said too. GW terrain is actually pretty nice and you can get enough to fill a table pretty cheaply. So if you do not want to make your own I would just get that. Pretty much each piece will fill up a 1/8th or 1/6th of a table so you only need about 6-8 pieces depending on how much terrain you want on the board.

If you dont want to paint it you could even send it to a painting service.

All about the benchmark. There are as many opinions about GW as they have models, but it's rare I hear anyone knock their scenery.

I'd never knock it, but personally I'm just not one to use a kit out of the box and leave it at that :p. I like custom set ups for tables, using a bit of kit bash is always cool though, and saves some time from having to detail yourself!

I'f you looking to have a project like this completely commissioned (and this is going off of what I personally would charge) I'd say you should expect to pay somewhere in the neighborhood of $1250+ depending on options for the table, gaming surface and enough of both 40K + WFB scenery to cover 25% of the gaming surface.
