I like everyone else have been using GW acrylic paints but recently made the leap to much better Coat d' Arms paints.

What I was wondering was if anyone uses oil paints or even just plain artist watercolour on that special model for a painting competition, etc.

They dry really slow but they have great coverage and are heaven for wet-blending techniques. I saw a internet video about wet blending a thunder-hammer and the painter commented about how much better oil paints are to blend on the model itself.

Lastly is it worth it? The slow-drying isn't a huge thing for me as long as the paints look good on the model.

Yes I've tried it -

the red & yellow are oil.

I also use it on tanks, really watered down (with white spirit) to line the model.

Oil paint works so well as the pigments in the paints are very fine - much finer than any other medium.
I even have a video of someone airbrushing oils (one of Osprey's but I can't remember the title).
I'll dig it out tonight & re-post.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

The video you're talking about was posted by Lbursley, who posts on these forums.

I haven't used anything but acrylics myself, as oil paints are more expensive.

I currently use oil paints for weathering, but I will, when I get round to it, be using them for general painting too as they are great for blending.
