Would it be acceptable to use the old ork codex and the Catachan codex in casual games? They are very underpowered and are just for fun. After all I spent a fortune on the orks and I don't like the current codex. Not to say it isn't good, just...dull imho. So, your verdict?

For the most part, people will not play with the old codexes, since it's a pain and half to get them working correctly with 5th edition.

However, if you really want to, go nuts. Just make sure it's a pre arranged game and not something you spring onto the enemy.

There is nothing in the rules that says you have to use the most recent codex... and in casual games, you would be free to change that with your opponent's permission anyway...

So no, assuming your opponent is ok with it, there is nothing stopping you from using older codexes.

Bear in mind though that codexes written for previous editions of the game may require some tweaking to work properly with the current rules.

Sure. I wouldn't have a problem with it. I've used the 3rd edition CSM codex a couple times. Don't ever use an old tyrand codex!!! If your Hive Tyrant doesn't have 8 WS,he's not worth it!

I understand. The Old Chaos Codex looked like so much fun to play. Unfortunately, I missed the cut off. I'm simply stating weather or not it would be over the top to use poor pitiful underpowered codi just for the funny war gear and options? Like booby traps for Catachans or Super Stikkbombs for orks.

Yes but super stikkbombs on a random fool is funny. S10 +2d6 armor pen was hilarious. Especially when its on a random hidden fool and then they rage and are like wtf nub, you killed my LR with an ork?

Well, "right-thinking" sort of rules out politicians immediately, doesn't it?

Personally, I'd suggest incorporating the bits you like from the old codexes into the current ones.

Hopefully you'll end up with the flavour you feel is lacking without massively handicapping yourself at the same time. Plus, it's a bit easier for your opponent's if most of the stat and options are the current ones.

Not really. If the UK is anything like America, there are very few politicians that could honestly be called "left-thinking".

Yeah I see no problem, my brother uses the older chaos space marine codex and I don't have a problem with it.
