Ask whoever is running the tournament.

That's all I'll say on the matter as I got banned last time I expanded on it.

The tournament standard for GW tourneys ('ard boyz, for example) is that the model must be a majority GW parts.

It really does come down to the TO, though, as they could arbitrarily ban or allow anything they please. In my experience, if a conversion looks good/fits in the setting/army, it usually gets a green flag.

My buddy used Dark Elves Cold ones and mixed em with SW models and wala - T-wolf calv. They look neat, tho people complain the base is too small (it says calvary in the descriptor, so bike bases seem fine by me!)

On the base issue, I have found that people tend to accept them best on the 60mm base that canis comes with.

I just wish GW would make models for their own units. I think that would be nice.

They'll release a model for it. Eventually. It took them a whole edition to finally release a drop pod model.

Yeah, only issue (my buddy pointed this out) is that:

A) Codex says "calvary", not monstrous creature
B) No models BUT Canis have been made

So honestly people argue this til they're blue in the face, but til a models released, its a pretty tough call... Honestly I don't see an issue with em being on calv bases til a FAQ change or something comes out. Sides, they're tough as hell anyway, doesn't change much lol

*shrug* They may or may not release it at all. They might just go, you figure it out.

I don't see an issue with them on a bike base, 40mm round, or 60mm round. There's advantages and disadvantages to each, although the bike base is probably the most advantageous.

Also, Canis' pet is supposed to be the largest T-wolf, so it's possible others would be on a smaller base.

Games Workshop tends to encourage conversions, and the rule book just says nothing smaller than what the model is provided with. Since the only model we have to base it on I would say the 60mm should be the default. Also as long as the conversion is almost all GW I do not think they will have a problem, most of the time it is a nice Ice breaker for myself anyway " What the hell are those? They are my thunderwolves." I only get two answers first"......okkkayyyyy" and second " That is awesome"

Yep. Its just like the stormraven; technically we have no baseline othe rthan "its smaller than a thunderhawk". But its generally agreed upon that a valkyrie converted is the best bet. T-wolf calv I've seen done on 60 MM's or on Bike bases. I agree, its very advantageous to use biker bases, but theres honestly no arguement other than "canis' wolf is that big!" I honestly don't see arguing the point with my friend cuz I'd rather play than argue about base sizes half the game lol

lethlis - actually no, the rulebook does NOT state that - it used to in 4th, but not the 5th ed book.

Now it has to be 2on the base the model comes with"

Y'know, I've wondered about this. The description of Canis says that his Thunderwolf is "exceptionally large." Shouldn't we therefore assume that the regular 'Wolves would be on a smaller base?

edit: Oops, someone already pointed this out.

@Saldiven:

Fluff =/= Rules.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Duh. Never realized that. Am such a 'tard.

Thanks for not addressing my point. My point was that there is nothing in the rules to indicate that TWC should be on the same base size as Canis, and some indication that they should be on a smaller base. Why do so many people assume they should be on the 60mm base?

Without a model to use as reference most people will look at the closest analog in fluff terms. Canis fits this bill.

In a situation like this the simplest approach is to use what would be most widely accepted, hence my choice to go with 60s. I would be ok with an opponent using cavalry or 60mm bases, but 40s and smaller would be met with some skepticism (dependant on the rule of cool for the model itself)

THE HORUS HERESY: Emprah: Hours, go reconquer the galaxy so there can be a new golden age. Horus: But I should be Emprah, bawwwwww! Emprah: Magnus, stop it with the sorcery. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?
