I spent 14 hours painting this chaos sorcerer... Opened my newly bought Armypainter Anti shine Varnish shook it for a minute or two. Then I went inside our ventilated room, that also have dry air... I sprayed a thin layer and voila!

14 hours painting ruined in 1 second. The clouding was instant, not slowly gradual like when there are moisture in the air. There had to be moisture inside the can... First I thought it was white primer I had sprayed on...
I mailed armypainter, but I have still not received an answer from them yet.

Have anyone of you had the same experience with this brand?
In the early days when I started wargaming, I varnished in moist air by mistake.. I learned a lesson then... this time it was definitely not my fault...

This happened to to me a few times with army painter and games workshop matte finish. My research and experience is DONT USE THE gak. Use Testers matte coat. If you get a can and hose that model down it may save it. It has worked in the past for me. I think testers product has a bit of acidtone in it so it actually melts other matte finishes. Give it a try before you give this model the dip.

Thanks for the tip, but 10 minutes after the photo was taken, the model jumped right into a jar of acetone and took a scrub bath. Now its all black legion again... : )

Did the spray come out visibly white? Was the can being held at an angle or vertically?

Just wondered as I use the same army painter varnish without issue, and wanted to see if perhaps it was technique that was an issue. Using the can any way other than pure vertical can spit out a lot of propellant as well as varnish that mixes together.

I held the model in my left hand and I saw white dots coming on both my thumb and model as the varnish landed on the model, so it was white from the can. I held the can straight up, maybe in a slight down angle.
I tested on a colored paper afterwards and the spray came out white for about 10 seconds of spraying, until it turned transparent. I am quite sure that the can had some moisture in it, or possible had too much propellant.

Try spraying it on a peice of spure or something, see if it really is white spray...Maybe they mislabed a can or something?

Its still a shame though.

One more curiosity, was it the first time you used that can or had it been used before? And if it was used before, how long had it been since last use?

As I wrote, it turned transparent after 10 secs of spraying, it was varnish...

I had used it a couple of days earlier, but I bought it a week ago. Never tried it before. I have used Vallejo Matt Varnish Spray up to now. Will probably turn back to Vallejo.

A number of reasons why the can sprayed white goop. I follow the below which works a charm every time.

Some tricks with spray cans are as follows...

1. shake for 5min.
2. Put in warm water for 2 min (this helps to stop weird stuff spraying out, won't go into why)
3. shake for another 2 min
4. test spray
5. Shhhhpraaayyy da mini

You do this procedure every time you are about to spray a model? Or is it a one time cure for a can?

Misery. Missouri. Who can tell the difference.

Man that sucks. I use to use the Matt Spray from Hobby Lobby and they must have changed how they made it since it did the same thing. I haven't had the same issue with the Army Builder Matt Spray but only have bought one can because it is uber expensive.

I would say that is everytime.

My procedure is much the same, although I don't always warm the can in the water.

I shake for 3 to 5 minutes, then test spray see how it is, shake for another 2 then do the mini.

I had this same thing happen to me on an ork trukk.

It came out clear, looked fine but as it dried it turned white.

I was not happy to say the least.

Someone here on Dakka gave me the idea to spray another coat or 2 on it and see what happens.

I did and 99% of the white went away.

Something you might can try if it happens again.

I will admit that mine was not as bad as yours.

Oi!! Which Butt'n makes dis ting go!?!
