Ok, now there is a reply I will add mine (so as to not colour the opening post)
I was introduced to Thrash Metal by someone showing me 'Orion' by Metallica, which was when I started listening to metal really.
However, after listening I now prefer Megadeth. While Metallica have some truly great songs, Megadeth is more fun to listen to, more intensive and has more energy.
Also, i found the Megadeth 90s albums much better than Metallicas offerings and now there's no comparison really.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

What you think of Metallica as a whole, though you can explain and break down through history what you think if you want to concentrate on a specific timeframe for Metallica.

I'm all for the Mettalica that played fast, back when Hetfield would go on stage and yell "If your looking for a band in drag that says oh baby every second word then this is the wrong fething band"
That Mettalica. 
And I think of Mettalica as a Great band that sold out. Just Imo. But Master of Puppets will always have a place in my heart

Megadeth, if for no other reason than Metallica's stance on the napster and file sharing. Can't get behind a band that wants to punish kids whose only crime is that they wanted to listen to mettalica's music for free.

Metallica had some more ..successfull albums but have made a steady slide toward the Corporate. The trend to sell more has affected both their music and their outlook.
Metallica used to give their music away, then they became defacto faces of the anti-download movement.
Peace Sells is, imho, a better song than anything Metallica has ever put out.

Old Metallica was great. The first Megadeth album was terrible. I listened to it in the car the other day for the first time in like 10 years. It ain't good. However, Megadeth now is a way better band than Metallica. Plus, I think I'd rather meet Dave Mustaine than anyone in Metallica.

I had the misfortune of meeting the new Mettalica cast a few years back. I don't even remember why I was there.
I yelled play Ride the Lighting though, at Hetfield.
3 inches of blood and Vader have to be the best shows i've ever been too.

Never was able to get into Megadeth. Always been a metallica guy. I was introduced to metal when I was about 8 or so by my dad. Someone he worked with gave him their copy the Black Album and me and him would listen to it on the way to school and then I went from there.
Ohhhh and Amon Amarth had one of the best shows I've ever seen. Right up there with Rush and Porcupine Tree.
