My IG army is lacking in the range of long range, hard hitting ordanace fire. I'm looking into buying a basilisk and converting it or whatever, or just leaving it to be a basilisk. What, in dakkas opinion is the best form of the basilisk i was thinking a normal basilisk or a medusa, but now I'm not so sure.

Medusa is simply smashing, though in my opinion, the manticore is the best artillary around.

Manticore also has a newly released kit as well as its effective ( and you can assemble it as death strike )

I think its good :'D

The only bad thing is i would like to have them in squadrons

I personallly think that the FW manticore kit looks better but it is still a wonderful piece of artillary. I also always like the idea of colousus. Brilliant agains MEQ armies because of its (reletivly) high strength, Ap3 and ignoreing cover.

Medusa or standard basilisk are both great long range hitters.

...Untill they get within the 24" minimum range.

Go for the Medusa. S10 Ap2 with the choice to take S10 Ap1 Bunker-Buster shells which have an extra 33% of range.

No way. In Apoc, you've got big enough boards to want a full unit of Bassies, and sometimes you need to reach out and hit someone...

Manticore all the way. You can spit out a stupid amount of fire with that thing for four turns, and it has a kickass new model to boot.

This is a fact.

The only other things I use are: a pair of griffons for very cheap, accurate, effective anti-infantry; basilisks on tables where I can truly utilize their range; breacher medusas for Apocalypse engagements with superheavies.

In other instances, I just take the ordnance cannon off and plop down Hydra turrets.

Well, while I would not necessarily call the Manticore the best, it certainly will not fail you. D3 S10 large pie plates can solve a great many battlefield problems. Ork Mob coming your way? A Land Raider full of Thunder Hammer- wielding terminators? Enemy artillery? The Manticore offers a solution to all of them.

So far, I've used a Basilisk, but my last game my newly painted Manticore came out to play. It was great! I was fighting Necrons, and the Manticore was good for killing the infantry dead(er).

What if you want to use both at the same time?
