In a weird occurrence I stopped footling with models for long enough to paint my first Stalker Class Rough Rider

Generally happy with it. I tried out a couple of new things. Firstly the heavy weathering around the feet and on the top of the backpack. The other thing I tried was some OSL from the exhaust vent and the plasma power core... It might just be because its the first one I've done or if there is something wrong.. it just looks a bit funny.. I would appreciate some feedback on the OSL in particular in case I've done something wrong.

Anyway, on with the show. Please note that everything is a little bit yellow from my light, but hopefully the camera has corrected for the most part (images can be clicked on and zoomed into).

On the whole, a nice conversion. I dont know much about rough riders (except the models are almost as old as GW) but my only 2 pieces of feedback are:
-I think some hydrolics needs to be between the feet and the legs, it looks a little detached.
-I think the paintjob on the "rider" and the machine need to have a little contrast, I seem to be losing the rider when i look at the model

But over all a nice conversion.

It wasn't supposed to be. That thing is more of a fully enclosed battlesuit, while this is supposed to be a go faster suit for Guardsmen who can't stand horses

Hat off to you mate, this looks cool. To be honest I was toying with this kind of idea for my Marines a few years back but I thought it would be too much work. The idea eventually spawned my Predator conversions though. I think your idea is much better suited to the IG and is a great for the Rough Riders...well executed.

Seriously awesome now that they are painted, agreed with Sguig_Herder some hydrolics just under the foot would add some stability too the model (visually I mean)

The only thing I would add to these would be a serious 4-way harness (think the loader in Aliens)...otherwise the Guardsmen would be likely to fall out of the thing.

Thanks guys.

@Squig_herder - I've had quite a lot of similar comments about the feet. I did try and fit a smaller ram at the "ankle" but couldn;t make it look right. On the unpainted ones I might try fitting some kind of stiffener there to make it look a bit less bare. Regarding the paint job I deliberately chose to have the backpack in the same kind of OD colour as the fatigues as it felt a bit more "realistic" to me. Really relying on the camo scheme to differentiate the rider from the suit. Having said that I might try and darken the backpack where it is adjacent ot the rider to get some contrast in there... where's my notepad

@Cypher - Yeah, they are fiddly as hell. Oh well, only have to do another 9 of them for a full squad

Regarding the harness, I was imagining that they lock rigidly onto the armour carapace. That would provide a much more distributed load path to the rider.

I imagine that would chafe some! They would all be back in barracks after a hard days fighting applying buckets of Savlon to their sores.

Interesting idea, good execution and paintjob! I agree with the above comments that a second set of pistons behind the feet/lower legs would look good, but the model looks effective already.
