Agreed. In 3rd ed the ability was Fleet of Foot. In 4th they called it Fleet, which obviously leaves it open to other descriptions/modes of locomotion.

Some units are just capable of hauling ass and moving extra fast if they don't slow down to shoot. You know what? In many games (including Warhammer) EVERY unit is capable of moving twice as far by marching or running, so why does it so strain credibility for a few units to do it in 40k? Swooping Hawks were able to do it all through 3rd. A Dark Eldar Archon on a skyboard could do it too.How is it broken for the Autarch to do it?

Perhaps because there was a precedent set in third edition regarding this issue?

There was never a rule against fleeting on a jetbike.

The rule was against fleeting with a 3+ save. The fact that jetbikes happen to fit that category might just as easily have been an oversight.

while a look at page 65 under unit type along with the fluff and models would make it pretty clear that shining spears have jetbikes.

Yes and the gaurdian jetbike entry says the same thing. "jetbike"

Now look under the original entry for gaurdian jetbikes under "wargear" and now look at the shining spear entry under wargear. See the discrepency?

Gaurdian jetbikes clearly say "Eldar jetbikes" While the shining spear entry says "Laserlance" I think its pretty obvious that shining spears are equipped with eldar jetbikes, yet to be completly RAW about it, it doesnt mention them.

Now for the history on jetbikes and fleeting.

Either the medication I am taking for my broken ankle is far better than I thought or I am completly wrong. I am well aware of no model with a 3+ save fleeting under 3rd ed, but thatt was not what I was refering to. I seem to recall a clarification due to faq or white dwarf stating characters mounted on jetbikes could no longer fleet.

But then again, that point is completly moot, even if there was such a thing as it obviously no longer applies.

A Dark Eldar Archon on a skyboard could do it too.

No kidding? I did not know that. Well that sets a precedent for me then.

I dont know about all this. Its legal by RAW to do so, but as I have ranted on earlier, I obviously feel something not quite cricket about this.

Oh well this will just make my Saim Hann even stronger. *shrug*

But fluff aside, I don't see any foundation for thinking that this is an oversight or a loophole.

Sure.....

I guess we will have to wait and see if the FAQ feels the same as you.

Doubt it.

Just imagine the lone Autarch gunning his screaming jetbike extra hard (VRRRRROOOOO!!!) while playing "Push It To The Limit" on his mandiblaster-headphones and then busting out his laser lance before doing a totally sweet Darth Maul-style jump-flip over his enemies' heads and rockin' like Dokken in hand-to-hand.  AWESOME!!!

I think then you'll realize that Autarchs can totally fleet because they are super-sweet and that's a fact.

Well Abby, I am going to have to model my autarch with a guitar for his laser lance and white, flare cut plum-smugglers.

Paul Engeman and Slaanesh would be proud.

BITCHIN'!
