Dude, I've played in that store. I don't want that kind of sticky mess on my tables. Yucky.  (Sorry Ed: you're a good guy, but even so...)

i have by no means been in this hobby as long or as active in it as anyone who has posted here , but this is an insult to the intelligence of anyone in the hobby or someone considering it. back in 2002 i was formally introduced to it . i was working a job for 5 months away from home with 2 days off every two weeks with not many drinking establishments(and it was a college town imagine that?!?) that summer a comicbook store i would visit on days off had a 40k & fantasy league that were going to be reduced to next to 0.(due to graduations) so they made their own deals to get people started. wich they must of had to eat some considerable cost to do this. thats how i got into it. i only regret that i'm not there to play, they were a great bunch of people customers & staff. if anyone is still reading this story that went off topic it was THE DRAGON'S KEEP in provo ut. a place i recommend if your in the area.

The way people talk about this Kirby guy is cracking me up.  I'm imagining a fat little gremlin man that looks kind of like G.W. Bush and sits on a giant throne in front of a bank of television sets with a pistol.

aw comeon guys! why do you have to be soooo negative? you all whine about prices and then when gw does something about it you just whine somemore!!!!!! their just trying to do something nice for theyre customers and all i hear is whineing im sick of it!!!!!! they didnt HAVE TO do this! they could have raised there prices instead!! and then i bet all you just WHINE EVEN MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Doobie kind of has a point, no matter how facetious he was trying to be.

GW's been on the same development path for a good while now, implementing the same seemingly miserly policies time and time again. This new promotion should not really come as a shock to players and yet it manages to blow up 4 pages of recurrent "wow, look how dumb GW is" on this forum. Every single time GW does something, people on dakka gripe and yet they never seem to learn.

Many of you mock Kirby for being a half-witted business man for being unable to learn from gamers, yet some of you've been posting essentially the same content and expressed views ad nauseum on an internet forum for years. GW keeps releasing similar promotions and implementing similar changes, never relenting to all of your insightful input. Yet time and time again, these threads are created with the same posters making the same points, mocking the same individuals, ridiculing the same style of policies. What does that say about you? Kirby won’t listen to hobbyists and dakka won’t listen to reality.

As I began with, GW’s been doing the same thing for years. Dakka’s been complaining about it for years, with no obvious influence on policy. Maybe it's time for the posters on this forum to demonstrate their intelligence and move on?

aw comeon guys!  why do u have to be soooo negative?  u all whine about prices and then when gw does something about it you just whine somemore!!!!!!  their just trying to do something nice for theyre customers and all i hear is whineing im sick of it!!!!!!  they didnt HAVE TO do this!  they could have raised there prices instead!!  and then i bet all you just WHINE EVEN MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1  lol!

just think about it.  a 10% precent discount is better than nothing!!!  i dont see privitear press give $9 discounts to people who buy $315 of stuff!!!!!!!  lol!!!

besides if your starting a new army then its all stuff you would have bought anyway!!!!!  i know if i was starting a new spase marinez army id do this cause it would help motivate me to get everything painted (and we all know thats a good thing!!  lol!) and id get some nice savings to!!!

if you dont like it nobody is forcing you buy it anyway!!!  lol!  maybe somepeople like it?  ever thought of that????  no i bet you didnt!!!!  so stop whineing!  hurr!

You all who complain about us complaining about the prices don't get it in this instance: we are NOT complaining about the price, or even the supposed discount. These are "bad things", and is a given - IE, anyone can see its expensive, and its not really a "deal".

The POINT of my original post, is that ANYONE, who has ANY kind of internet intelligence, and with maybe 5 minutes of searching on google, can find a FAR FAR BETTER DEAL FOR NO WORK!!

Here's an example. I went to google and searched for "discount warhammer". The FIRST LINK was for http://www.warhammerdirect.com/ that gives 15-20% off, and free shipping.

If I search for Games Workshop Products off retail, the first link I get is to www.thwarstore.com - 20% off, cheap shipping.

A few links into these searches, and suprise suprise, my "local" games store Your Move Games (New England) - sells at 15% off everyday in Providence, and 25% off in MA!

The POINT, get it, the POINT, is that anyone with any amount of brains, or visits just about any GW forum, can find these other places EASILY, and get the same stuff CHEAPER. You think no one at GW knows this? If they don't, they are morons. This is just them saying "We know there are some moronic fanboys out there who will take any bone we throw them. This costs us just about nothing to do, so why not do it?"

You want to know what I'd like to see? If I buy $250+ worth of product for this promotion, AND paint it, AND play some games, why not give me a coupon worth $30 to buy more product?? Thats a nice reward - I can get a few blisters, maybe a box depending - like a scout squad and a blister, or only pay $5 for a tac squad, or put it towards a dread. You know what that would cost them? 10%. Thats right, in total I bought $280 worth of product, but paid only $250 - about 10 discount%. How can that possibly affect their bottom line so much, that they won't do that?? Imagine the PR, goodwill, and happy customers they will generate - its CHEAP compared to other advertising. AND GUESS WHAT - even with this "amazing" idea of mine, it would STILL be better to go to the warstore - but there is something psychological about getting something "free", so I bet it would work.

THAT'S what a lot of us are upset about. THROW US A FRIGGIN BONE ONCE A YEAR, HUH?!? IS THAT ASKING TOO MUCH?

Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.

Hey John, I know you're a recent addition to the Dakka Lynch Mob so I thought I'd mention this - Abba wrote a sarcastic post in the stylings of a rabid fanboy. He's on your side.

After reading Johns original post on the subject, I couldn't help but wonder what GW will offer the upcoming incarnation of the Outrider program. I'm curious to know if the rewards will be just as wonderous.

I think Abadabbadobadon was being facetious.  Everyone loves a good b#tch now and again.

I suppose that aside from how obviously lame the discount is, the main problem is that it doesn't increase the viability of retail stores against online merchants.  I'm aware of the better deals out there online, as I'm sure are most people who play the game.  The main problem is that if people don't shop at the place where they play, those places disappear.  It is vital to the success of the hobby that there be places for people to meet and find pick up games.   Most hobbyists don't have the time, money, energy, or initiative to build their own terrain and find opponents without a gaming store as a resource.  If there is no place for people to see the hobby in action and meet like minded folks GW is going to dry up and die.  It is in their best interest to provide brick and mortar stores with better pricing and marketing support, at which this promotion fails utterly.

Are you very grieved, Jonah?

Yeah, this is a place of mitching and boning, but not exclusively. It's easy to focus on the negative, forgetting the excitement over the Eldar 'dex and jetbikes, COD, and BFSP, combat patrol, as well as other systems. And there's just as much complaining over bad PP and Mongoose sculpts, confusing rules from confrontation, etc.

Perhaps those of us who complain now and again do so because we miss what we once had, and are seeking solace. Me? I've mostly moved on. It used to be dissatisfaction with the price of the minis and looking for alternatives (something I still do with every game system, btw). Now I'm just burned out from the rules (most especially the predominance of unit spam as a 'tactic'), and waiting for something to bring me back in.

LOL! If this place is so offensive to you, why do you keep posting here? The bulk of both of your recent posts add nothing constructive and are generally variations of "shut up, Dakka Sux0rz, Yuo Suxorz, etc...",  with little to no attempts at actually adding  constructive commentary. Instead of caustically complaining about and hurling insults at people who are airing their grievances and opinions with GW, perhaps it is YOU who should find "greener" pastures? I hear the B&C loves GW circlejerks, that seems like it would suit you better.

I think the schisms being formed here are seriously slowed.

You have The Complainers.
A Nasty jaded lot whose cynicism are matched only by their vitriol. Most have probably been in the hobby too long and need a different avenue. The type of people who wont be happy until GW gives birth to solid gold.

Then you have The Complainers Who Complain About Complainers.
This lot is simply is tired of the apparent negativity that has been building up. Whether the criticism is real or perceived, they feel its their duty to point out the fact  that there is probably someone somewhere complaining, proclaiming such at every opportunity that arises.

So now dakka is a kind of warzone for some. Its just a game people. Hardly worth the apparent aneurisms. So when you whine, or whine about whiners, just keep that little bit in the back of the mind.

Syr:
I respect you for your ability to move on, which is an ability I am faulting the others for not adopting. I used to whine as much as certain posters here (check the old dakka archive, if it's still up) but then I grew up and realised that I could quit if I wanted to and that it would be the only way of reaching resolution with my GW-inspired angst.

I have long passed the point at which GW can make me angry.  At this point the study in gross incompetence that is GW business strategy is merely a source of amusement to me.  I guess there is part of me that wishes they would get their act together, but I really don't expect that to happen.

While in some sense their behavior has become quite predictable, in many ways they still manage to amaze me - while I know they're going to do something outrageously dumb to piss off their customers, I don't always know just how they're going to do it!  I love watching them come up with new and innovative ways to flip their customers the bird.

Take this latest offering for example - it does exactly the opposite of what it is intended to do (assuming the intention was not to make people laugh).  Rather than fostering goodwill and driving sales, this anemic discount merely reminds people of how truly absurd the current prices are.  It's better to just not give anything than to advertise your stinginess.

I hardly buy any GW anymore but I still come to dakka because of the pretty pictures and funny jokes.  And I also like to keep up on the latest news so I can watch GW flounder about in its slow-motion death spiral - a veritable font of unintentional comedy.  HI-larious!  So sit back and enjoy the show!

Immature AND a lack of reading comprehension! Fantastic! Hint: I never insinuated that you were a "GW circlejerk." Why, that just doesn't make any sense. However, you might find your browsing experience much more enjoyable if you were to attend one. Though I prefer the free flow of opinions and news expressed here, both good and bad, regardless how repetetive it may sometimes be. This, after all, a discussion board, and part of lively discussion is holding varying, often divergent, opinions on things and talking about them (the opinions).

I failed to mention this before, but I am totally chuffed to know I have a fan club now! That is so sweet of you! Awww, come give your Nyarly a hug!

And you're going to tell me Warseer and B&C aren't repetitive?  Seriously, I'd much rather read pages upon pages of jaded, cynical, caustic (and often hilarious) grousing than open up a news and rumor thread only to find 98 pages of "I'm planning on buying this and this and this when they get released - here's my armylist!" or "why do they release such nice stuff!!  oh no, my poor bank account!  lol!" or "IW are the cheese!" or "fluff GOOD, powergamer BAD!!!" or "spase marinez!!! hurr!"  Not to mention all the inane "what's your favorite chapter?" and "what do space marines eat?" and "if 40k was real who would you be?" threads.  *barf*

Yes, dakka is repetitive.  Repetitively AWESOME!!!
