Oye Mona Lisa has no Copyright, or trademark, it's public domain...  The thing is they can only copyright and trademark things for so long, and then, it becomes public domain.  If you have issues with this blaim disney, they are the reason Copyright law time frame keeps getting extended.  Micky has been up to become public domain 2 times now, and the goverment has lengthend Copyright law's time frame.

They just have the IP for their own protection.  And to let people know when they could get in trouble.  It's like when you buy a video game, and you have this list of terms of agreement you didn't know about before you bought the product due to it not listing it till you install the game.  At least GW tells you before.

Anyway, I think one thing that may be coming out of this is a big expansion of Battlewagon Bitz' service; they may carry more stock and get it at a bigger discount direct from GW. There is the chance that, even though GW's douchebaggery is wrecking the online shopping cart, that we'll have more bitz to select from in the future. Every turd has a silver lining, or whatever the saying is.

Still would suck. If I cant look at the bits, click the cart and order them, and GW forces me to actually have to call, email or fax, its still a loss to the consumer.

Hope more old fools come to their senses and start giving you their money instead of those Union Jack Blood suckers...

70 years from creation of space hulk.

The Tattooing thing... It's nothing against the person getting it tattooed on them. It's against the shop that is copying the artwork to make a profit, if it was legal the tattoo shop would pay a royalty for every time they tattooed the image on someone. Or they would pay a flat fee to be able to do this over a period of time.

This is kindof back to the superman/ t-shirt thing.

http://www.copyright.gov/ US Copyright in a nutshell.  Now UK Copyright could have some diffrent numbers, diffrent things to it, and as the US with trade agreements we must abide by them.

"T-shirts, Clothes, Tatoos and the Like

As always, we cannot allow third parties to obtain money from our intellectual property.

This effectively means that you would either have to buy Games Workshop T-shirts or clothes or make them yourself. You would not be able to sell any t-shirts or clothes that you make.

This also means that we cannot allow tattoos as an acceptable use of our IP as a third party necessarily has to perform the "service." "

So if my tattoo artist does the image for free all is good? And what about the "10% difference" clause on IP's?

The idea is that it takes extra effort and time to write properly, and they’d rather save the time. If you can still be understood, what’s the harm? While most of the time a sloppy post CAN be understood, the use of proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling is generally seen as respectable and desirable on most forums. It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. By making this effort, you can often elicit more positive responses from the community, and instantly mark yourself as someone worth talking to.

Dice Monkey, I often smile at what you say or even chuckle, but do you ever say anything informative or useful? You sound a lot like the type of girls I hook up with.

Chuck

Chuck,

Sorry, but my wife would not like it if i "hooked up" with you.  Thanks for asking though.

it is very hard to post anything serious on Dakka these days, it is kinda like watching a sad pantomime of old imperial Dakka.  The only real excitement is seeing if you can get in more than a 3 word post in before a crash.

Only now do I realize how much I prefer Pete Haines' "misprints" to Gav Thorpe's "brainfarts." :Abadabadoobaddon

Here's an idea, people... stop playing the games and paying GW money, directly or indirectly.

I'm not the biggest fan of GW's policies, but seriously... a lot of you guys just complain all day long about everything GW does, yet you claim to enjoy their games. The only way to make them change is by not giving them that money. As long as you funnel money to them one way or another, they have no reason to change. You think the same group of malcontents complaining over and over on one or two message boards is going to make them change policies that are currently workings (sans LOTR)? Of course not!

If you're that worried, find a way to make a real difference. Or just admit that you don't really care about the game, its players, or the company, and would rather sit around complaining.

Better yet, Gavrin, why don't you go find a different GW message board. One where they only say nice things, far away from all of us internet meanies who say bad things about Games Workshop and make fun of your weight.

"a lot of you guys just complain all day long about everything GW does, yet you claim to enjoy their games."

I don't see any cognitive dissonance here.

People can complain about the company and still like the games.

I'm sure when one of your buddies says "I've gotta head home from the bar early tonight, my wife is waiting up for me.", your first response to them is "Get a divorce."

Oh come on people, you can't all be that new to the internet. It's been this way since Usenet, and probobly from earlier (talk radio, CBs, cave paintings). Discussion naturally veers into two widely divided camps, and while the vast majority of readers are in the middle, virtually all the posters are going to flogg their opinion.

Normally, the divide is "GW sucks and hates its customers" and "GW is awesome, and we should unquestioningly buy their stuff."

Pick a side, tune the rest out, and let it go. You're not going to change anybody's mind.

I am upset there is a bitz ninja instead of a bitz pirate.

Yes, but the bitz Spartan would kick both their azzes.

.Only a fool believes there is such a thing as price gouging. Things have value determined by the creator or merchant. If you don't agree with that value, you are free not to purchase.

That made me laugh.   It's a pretty good way of looking at it.  The flip side is, when a person says, "I'm not going out with you guys tonight, I'm going to the theater with my SO," you wouldn't call them a hollow shell of a man whose life has become all consumed by love for GW.... err the girl.

One note for people who wonder why cranky old gamers kvetch endlessly about GW, and then get mad when called out: everybody eventually gets burned by GW, or nearly everybody.  Someday, eventually, most young fanboys become grumpy old cynics.  Or flame out and stop playing.

And that's the big secrete about those of us who complain about GW: we're still invested, financially and emotionally, and we still play the games and care about the company.  What's more telling than any "I hate GW" post ever will is every club member we no longer see, every army sold on Ebay with the heading, Leaving the hobby, and every poster here whose long gone.

Many of us have. Well, not stopped playing, but definitely stopped buying. The only GW purchase I've made in the past year, from GW or an independent, has been the DA Codex, and that's 'cause I'm in the middle of a campaign and need it in order to continue playing.

FYI, the Internet is a communication tool used the world over where people can come together to complain about everything and share pornography with one another.

If you're not doing the former, you'd best be doing the later. And I don't see any skin...

We would call you a hollow shell or PW.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

And that's the big secrete about those of us who complain about GW

Man, I know I spew vitriol, but I don't secrete anything!  Ewww.

You are spot on with your post, though!

My brother has a tattoo of a Jeff Easley dragon on his arm. He was going to get a Slaine on his back, but decided against it, coz while he was certain that he could kick Easley's ass, he wasn't quite sure about kicking Bisley's.

I don't know how this pertains to the topic, but there it is.

Hey now, I can't really be credited with that quote as it originates from Kevin Smith. I simply paraphrased it to make it more applicable to the topic at hand.

Tell me about it.  Those Draconians sucked, especially because I always got stuck playing the lovable Kender.
