I'm going to come right out and say that 99% of my models are not painted. I am not good at and derive no enjoyment from painting. I like building stuff, modelling, and playing, and as such my efforts go into that.

Most of our games involve fields of identicle grey men fighting against grey tanks.

And we have a blast.

I don't like painting but I like having painted armies that I painted myself. In other words the result not the process is what interests me.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Amen to that...But playing without any unpainted model would lead to not playing whatsoever and that dear sirs is not gonna happen!

Progress would be nice and I try to paint my stuff. I have no problem with unpainted armies and if anyone has, then they shouldn't play against each other. But in a store, no army should be more equal than the other.

I'm in the painting first, gaming second camp.

If someone asks me what my hobbies are, I will say miniature gaming.  I will not say video games, even though that is something I also spend my time doing.  But video games are just that, a game, whereas miniature games also have that modeling and painting aspect.  When I see an unpainted army, I assume the guy must be new.  If I see the same unpainted army a month later, I will form the opinion that the owner is in it for the game and not for the hobby.  Since I'm in it for the hobby, we probably won't have much in common, as the gamers often try to win  their games and talk about rules and combos whereas I like talking about conversion possiblities, new painting techniques, and background fiction on the game.  It's not elitism, it's just a difference.  Unfortunately there are fewer hobbyists than gamers, so the minority could tend to find themselves superior, but they certainly aren't correct.

Oh, and I feel like I have helped my FLGS make some cash when customers get to see my painted armies on the board and get excited about that part of the hobby, so try not to put down the paint nazis just because they're not buying lots of models anymore, they may still be helping the store make money.

Painted armies are better? Yes! duh! Everyone aspires to having a nicely painted army, even if they never do it.

Is painted neccesary to play? No! duh! It takes time to do, and as previously stated, it may take eons to have an army completed. I know of a few people who took 8+ years to get a fully painted army. Should they have to sit at home dreaming of the day they can finally play their army because of painting requirements? No!

if you want painted armies as a requirement to play, then make a special tournament where this is a special disclaimer.

if you want to just go to the shop and casually play then you should be allowed to. Afterall, you paid your money just like everyone else who owns an army (painted or not), you are entitled to use what your hardearned (or daddies and mommies hardearned) cash has purchased.

A shop owner who inflicts such parameters for play will not be open long. Been there, seen that, bought the t-shirt.

While I don't play with unpainted models, forcing my views on someone else is just dictatorial. So long as I can more or less figure out what your model is supposed to be, that's all I care about. So I see all kinds of stuff from wonderful paint jobs to models with no arms. It doesn't really matter so long as you are having fun.

Threads should be like skirts: long enough to cover what's important but short enough to keep it interesting.
