I've got to echo the plasma pistol on juves question. I always just sort of handed them a knife and had them run around wearing bright bullseye shirts while chanting "shoot me, shoot me" at the top of their lungs. If I was feeling very nice I might have even handed them a autopistol.

Gawds I mistreated those little buggers.

Necromunda rules all other specialist games.

It's all about giving them something with a +2 at close range, and running them around in a mob with your (also pistol-armed) leader. 3-4 of them with the leader will provide some much-needed ablative armour for him, then just get into 8" and blast the pants off something. most of the juves will survive, and quite a few will gain an advance every game. joy!

You don't need to give them anything with +2 though. I'm dead serious that sometimes I'd only give them a knife. The point of a juve was that they were cheap distraction units that could also maybe swarm someone if they got close. It was often more valuable in my mind to have three juves with knives then two juves with autopistols.

I disagree most heartily sir. Not until you've seen a juve, in their second game, use sprint, leap, hip shooting and a plasma pistol to obliterate the enemy leader turn 2 will you know the point, or meaning, of juves. That, to me, is the point of a juve; they become more specialised than your traditional ganger, so anything that'll give 'em an xp boost early on is a boon.

Don't get me wrong, I use them as human shields too, but only as one facet of their nature, e.g. cheaper than my leader. And they can still turn out rubbish through bad advance rolls and too many injuries. But surely you can learn to love the poor swine? I had one juve, got 2 OBW's, a crippled hand and 2 Ld upgrades, nothing else, and then my leader died almost instantly. Guess who landed in charge? We laughed for a long time. Then she turned into a slaaneshi demagogue, and gradually became useful - nay, great.

Ah, always makes me proud to see the little ones growing up so fast.

So that's why I give 'em an auto or bolt pistol, and because a base 3+ to hit from each of a pack of juves usually squibs whatever is coming at you, thus avoiding your opponent's chosen close combat monster and the untold damage (s)he and his/her homies could cause.

A bolt pistol on a juve? That's crazy talk, you don't equip a mook with a weapon that costs as much as he does.

A juve's job is to be a human meat shield, speed bump line to protect your leader and other gangers. Acid pit? Job for the juve. Couple of Heavies up on a tower in overwatch? Juves are going up that ladder. Ol' Zeke just ODed on some Neucrotic Slime and is causing problems? Well, maybe the juves can talk him down. They break easy so make sure you bring a bunch of them.

After they develop enough to have a clearer purpose within the gang is when I feel it is advantageous to then equip them. But to waste good creds on an unproven punk who may get glibbed by a Heavy Stubber within the first few turns of the game? That's just not worth it.

I dislike this post, as it shows how many years of my life I've wasted on this site :-P

Angron- crushing the theme and fluff of armies one horde at a time.

We just started a new Necro campaign this past week. Miss it? Download the rules, get some friends together and play. Don't have Necro models, no excuse. Old Harlies, Dark Eldar wyches were the models I faced Tuesday as Eschers. Catachans make good Orloks/Goliaths. Cadians as Van Saar. and so on.

I wish I still had my old plastic Orlock gang, I got them up to a ludicrously insane Gang Rating back in the day. Somewhere in the region of 15,000! Did suck when my Heavy with a 1-in-a-million Lascannon died from getting shoved off a 3 story building by my old mate Neil's Goliath juve though. I might have to download the rulebook and bust out a gang roster for good ol 'Mutt' Davidson and company.

I played ecsher! I miss the days of my hipshooting, sprinting with two gun mojo leagangers (I forgot what the 2 pistol skill is called!)

And nothing scared me more than Delaque heavies with infiltrate and bulging bisceps

That game was so much fun but no one wants to play it anymore.

2 pistols was gunslinger, wasn't it? I had a Goliath with that skill who used a pair of slug pistols with whatever the ammo upgrade for them was. I actually played Goliaths for a very long time before branching out to some of the other (better) gangs and I still have a soft spot for the misshappen lumps (both in fluff and in the miniatures that represented them)

Anyone else play a lot of scavvies? As long as you kept managing to capture someone you could become more profitable then most large gangs simply based off of not having to pay for food. Plus three armed mutants with swords and furious charge were ace.

I wish there was a Vassal equivalent or someway to play Necromunda on-line. I'd love to start a Dakka campaign.

Mostly because I liked writing the Arbitrator's journal (Got the idea from a Gav Thorpe piece in an old WD (think it was like 180-something) entitled "Just an old Hack").

I published a journal known as Interhive Reports during a long campaign I was part of with some friends (roughly a year). One of the best parts of the Necromunda experience is the juxtaposition of the scumminess of the Underhive mixed with Imperial propaganda.

Seems like an online version would be difficult considering how much height and true line of sight mattered with Necromunda.

Not to mention that Plasma Pistols and Plasma Guns aren't available to Orlock Gangs...

I just got a batch of new Necro models today. A few old metal Orlocks and Goliaths, 3 Ratskins, some old Scavvies including the Spear Gun Scaly, and Karloth Valios. Nice models.

BYE

Too bad about the plasma pistols,  I believe that they can be obtained under the current rules if you give up your opportunites for Rare rolls at the end phase of the game, but obviously not in a starting list.  You can then buy weapons that are not on your house starting weapons list.  I'll need to dig out my new ruleset and give you a page number, it's somewhat obsure and hidden away.

That is correct. Weapons not on the House list can be acquired by using one of your "Rare Items" slots when shopping. Page 97, House Weapon Lists.

So yeah, the Juves with Plasma Pistols cannot be done starting out, but you could use rare item slots to buy plasma pistols and give them to your juves.

GUNSLINGER! thanks Thor thats what it was callled!

Maybe I'll ask my FL:GS to start up a necromunda leauge that would be fun.

Also you could always have someone with the inventor special skill randomly whip up a cool new weapon ona rol lof a 6 I think. This is why Van Saar are so broken in the long term. Having an entire gang armed with plasma guns and a lascannon heavy against my poor auto pistol wielding juves.

My personal favorite weapons were the needle pistols/web pistols. I might be making up the web pistols, but I don't think so.

Also Thor I had 1 friend play skavvies but i don't remember much about them.

Fav mission was "THE DRAW" aka mexican stand off time where everyone had to test every turn to keep their cool and not draw first.

One quick thing guys, take a look at when this thread was started...... back then, orlocks could take plasma pistols starting out, because back then, was like 5 years ago, you threadomancers.
