Funny, I thought that was the stuff that built them into the kind of company that could go public and made them the dominant force in the wargaming world. You know games like Necro, Mordheim, BFG etc. You remember. Back when GW was a GAME company. I guess our timelines and hazy memories are a bit different.

Anyway, about Dark Heresy. This one decision in itself was only a small piece of my growing lack of GW interest. When I combined the complete hatcheting of Dark Heresy, with the loss of several armies, Chapter Approved, and the essential killing of Specialist games; it makes me completely unwilling to commit my money to help support GW. They have shown no loyalty or integrity to me, their customer; so I will return the favor.

Thanks for nothing GW...Again!

Going public was the worst thing that happened to GW.

You've nicely summed up how I feel about GW as well...

Not a good time to be a fan...

It got released because some designer produced some half-assed rules and they guys in the studio had some fun with it so it got released. Back in the late '90's that was all that was necessary for GW to bring out a new game. Somehow they thought that would be sufficient to sell a load of massively expensive 54mm models...

If you are a 40k fluff-nut then it has its positives, but it isn't really playable out the box. Not without a load of extra work by the GM - and no-one I ever knew had the time for all that malarky.

I have heard of some who persevered and used it with 28mm models, but it still requires more House Rules to make work than you could shake a stick at.

Exactly how I ended up using it. Take out half the rules, arbitrate the rest, stick in some advancement mechanism, and change the *&^(ing uncopyable character sheet full of calculations to an Excel sheet. 28mm miniatures because nobody could finish a large one, and hack in some sort of vehicle rules.

The game itself was bloated crap. The idea was good, as was the core system. Dark Heresy is pretty much the same thing.

A pittance, an arm, and your left nut, respectively.

I ordered the book off of overstock.com last tuesday after i found out they canned it.

I fully intend to run a campaign as soon as i get the book.

It is very crummy that GW dumped it when they did (and by the way it was GW) because it had such potential.

The good news is that there will be more books on the way before its all said and done and the main rule book has everything in it that is needed to run a campaign anyways.

This sucks that they canned it but it will not affect my decision to play the game and anyone who bought it and now wont play it just makes no sense to me at all.

You don't win a war by dying for your country, you make the other poor bastard die for his.

There are already people at work making the rules to play as Orks, so there is always that. Also this page is up and running already.

While I was googling for information on it I came across a link for a torrent on Pirate Bay for a D20 Warhammer 40k RPG. It's entirely fan made, but it's collaberative and not just one maniacs version of how it should be.

I've only given it a quick read through, but hey it's D20. So ithas to play like the D20 Star Wars with a 40K setting instead. While D20 isn't my favorite game system, it's still quite playable, and you can't beat the price of FREE

They already did the bulk of converting 40K things to D20 for you, so you just have to pop stuff into the setting a sneeded. If you already have Inquisitor, another FREE download, then your most of the way there.
