Infiltrating Broodlord
|
1/2-month progress report:
DONE:
Finished last 4 Zealots + Monolith Bearer (just waiting for weather to warm up enough to spray-varnish out-of-doors).
Made good progress on 10 Bile Thralls - just have to do a sepia ink wash and do a bit of drybrushing.
Got a bit of paint on Typhus and the Plague Marine Aspiring Champ.
Assembled and double-rod-mounted 10 Imperial Guard Jetbikes (for counts-as Roughriders).
Finished magneting LR Demolisher (also magneted the sponson multimeltas, due to 5th ed rumours ).
STILL TO DO:
Repaint the base markings on the rest of my Menoth (3 jacks, 19 infantry, 2 casters and a solo)
Finish painting Typhus, Plague Marine Aspiring Champion
Paint two Chaos Termies with Reapers and Chainfists
Paint 7 more Plaguebearers and Warp Gate
Paint Severius, Skarre, Eiryss and Gorman
Finish daemonizing and magneting Chaos Predator
Finish magneting and converting Flyrant
Finish flesh hooks and carapace for last 3 genestealers
You know, it actually looks almost do-able. Writing it down has kept me on-track! I probably won't get to the Warcasters and Merc solos, but I could see achieving the rest of my goals.

So.......
DA vindicator, Predator and 2x whirlwinds.- painted up and good to go apart from decals and some purity spray.
Completed my Black Legion Fellblade build/convert and i'm pleased with the results. Photos soon.
Built up 2x rhinos for undercoat.
50% painted my command squad. After some though i decided to replace the Apoth. and do a rebuild on him.
75% built LR crusader. Just waiting for my FW bits to arrive to finish it ( spaced armour ) then i'll undercoat it. I also changed the chaplain over for an Asmodi model.
Still to do; DA Dev squad to paint... The remaining 5 Deathwing to finish....Land speeder to undercoat and paint for suppression force....Assemble/convert Abbaddon and retinue (waiting for Wookiehole to send me the bits i need).....U/coat fellblade ......and finally U/coat DA vets, LR crusader, rhinos, Librarian , and new apoth.
To summarise : I'm on track and as long as FW and wookiehole play the game, i'll finish all on time this month. As long as i stick to my vows and don't deviate.............

Well, the month is halfway over, so I might as well start working on these vows, right?
I am creeping up on having much of these things finished. As you can see below, winter has come to Immoren. All that's left is to add some snow to the sides of the hills, and then they need a coat of gloss to make the snow more melty and less powdery.
As far as the trees go, I think I'm going to have to hold off on those until next month. The money just isn't there. My two ruined houses will be fine because they cost about $5-$10 total. Anyway, pics:

Only 11 days left. How we all doing?
The Naresh figs are done as of yesterday, but with 10 figs left to paint (bog trogs and paingivers) I'm concerned that I won't make it. Will probably work on paingivers first, then move on to the bog trogs.

The building of the first ruined house has been finished. I need to put a light coat of spackle on the outside walls to add some texture, and it needs a base. Should be simple enough.
Next one is going to be a little bigger. I want it to be like a workshop with a steam powered tools. Since it will be ruined, it will be empty except for the large boiler on the outside. And tubes, lots of tubes. Can't decide if I want it one or two story. Probably one for playability.

That's a great looking ruined house The Power Cosmic, great work.
I've finished painting my Zealots and I've got my Idrians to a playable level of painting. I'd like to go back and pick out some details on them, but they look good for the table top.
The pirates have proven to be the most time intensive because I want them to be colorful and stand out, I'm using a dozen different colors to high-light each of their bits and bobs. I'm really happy with the Black Scorpion stuff and I'd recommend them to anyone.
It doesn't look like I'm going to get to finish assembling that Harbinger.

Coming along nicely, folks! I got the 2 paingivers and the 8 bog trogs assembled and primed (along with the rest of my England Invaded figs). Now I just have to, you know, paint them... 2/21 UPDATE: Paingivers are done (in one day, even). Bog Trogs are next! I'm gonna make it! 2/26 UPDATE: Bog Trogs are 60% done. I thought they were going to be harder in a lot of ways than they were, which is a relief. It'll be close, but they'll be done on time, on target

I haven't painted much this last half of the month. here's what i've managed since my last entry:
Undercoated all the things i wanted to in my last entry ( next months lot)
Assembled six ravenwing bikers with minor conversion/weapon swaps and based.
Assembled new apothecary (much better looking now).
Converted and built a ravenwing chaplain on bike ( GS for robes and Mk4 feet plus forearm armour to attach to handlebar. I used the chaplain with the skull hemet and chopped him up to fit the robed lower half from the ravenwing sprue. i also added extra details to his bike).
Haven't managed to build my crusader fully yet as my parts from FW still haven't arrived but will next week. Instead i've been building and converting a BL squad using parts from the spawn sprues and possessed to make an aspiring champ. I also added the combi weapon from the chaos lord mini. I'm really happy with the results so far and i've got one left to make then i'll add some GS details and base them.
I've also not basecoated my fellblade yet as i'm going to convert the tracks so they have chaos arrow patterns instead of imperial tread pattern ala, FW land raider tracks. It's turned out to be a major conversion on the baneblade but i want to get it right. I've also left the abbaddon retinue alone until i've painted the normal squad up.
Hopefully this weekend i'll finish my HQ DA unit and make a 50% complete on my Dev squad.

It's the penultimate day of February (thank the Maker for leap years!). How'd we all do?
I JUST finished my bog trogs, sans sealing and flock. I have fulfilled my goals. 25 figs for the month, 48 for the year to date. Still shy of 1 figure/day (by about 12 figs) but I'm catching up!

Let's see what I vowed ...
Boss_Salvage wrote:First up, finishing up my goal of 1000 points of ogres by today (Feb 6). Missed hitting the mark, but not by much! Still to go:
Painting
- 1 yhetee
- 1 bruiser
- 1 movement tray
Then for the next month it's time to get my CSM to 2000 points. That'll be:
Painting
- 1 demon prince
- 1 dreadnought
- 1 land raider
- 3 terminators
That should get me a bit into March, but we'll lock them in as my February Vows.
1000 points of ogres are totally painted and totally sealed and totally hitting the table tonight. And I've built everything I have available for the 2000 point expansion of the list, which may start hitting paint next month.
Chaos got no love this month, and fairly embarassed about that. I did put the time to good use building fantasy stuff, but the CSM deserve a boost, despite me not caring about 40k too much right now.
Look forward to next month's vows, really have some work to do.

Even with my phantom day, I could not complete my vows. This seems to be a recurring theme. But at least I'm working on stuff. Heh. The snow in the above pictures still needs its coat of gloss. I tried it on 3 of the forest templates, but didn't go further than that.
Terrain Overview.
I got 3/5 obstacles built and then ran out of base material. Next month I need to get some more.
I nearly finished building the second of my ruined houses. All that is left in the wood pile in the back and shingles on the roof.
Removable roof for ease of play
Back side reveals the steampunky addition: a boiler.
Close-up. It's got a little steam whistle on it. Still needs a smokestack for the stove part. Also note that I put up a metal sheeting
(read: plasticard w/ rivets) on the wall to protect against exploding boilers.
So yeah, a decent month. Not totally satisfied, but happy with what I've done.

Hrm. Well, I didn't technically finish a project.
I did complete a tree template base, but it's missing a tree so it's not completed.
I did sculpt that demon prince of nurgle bust. But I didn't paint it! So it's not completed either.
I started working on that 1/48 WW2 US Infantry. Even started painting it! Just..didn't finish painting it yet x.x...So it's not completed either.
I jumped around a lot this month, and worked as slowly as ever ^_^.
I met all of my goals!! Wewt.

Strangelooper wrote:Oog. January was most unproductive. Finished my Khador battlebox...and, um, half-assembled a bunch of stuff, half-painted some more. Yikes.
Ok, February vows:
Highlight my last 4 Zealots + Monolith Bearer
Repaint the base markings on the rest of my Menoth (3 jacks, 19 infantry, 2 casters and a solo)
Finish painting 10 Bile Thralls
Paint Typhus, Plague Marine Aspiring Champion, and two Chaos Termies with Reapers and Chainfists
Paint 7 more Plaguebearers and Warp Gate
Paint Severius, Skarre, Eiryss and Gorman
Finish daemonizing and magneting Chaos Predator
Finish magneting LR Demolisher
Finish magneting and converting Flyrant
Finish flesh hooks and carapace for last 3 genestealers
I'd like to assemble and rod-mount my 10 Imperial Guard Jetbikes (for counts-as Roughriders) but I think I might be getting ahead of myself, realistically.
Lots of these are little jobs that I just never seem to get around to doing (like the final highlights on the zealots, and finishing converting the genestealers). I'm hoping that actually typing them in here where I can be reminded of what I need to do will help! I like the idea for these threads, to keep us on track.
Hmmm...the last two weeks of February saw little if any painting. :(
Finished my Zealots + MB, varnished and done.
Almost done 10 Bile Thralls (half of the highlights to do).
Got the body colour on Typhus, PM champ, 2 deathguard termies.
Finished taking the flash off the last 3 genestealers, put carapace and fleshhooks on.
Finished magneting LR Demolisher.
Assembled, rod-mounted and primed 10 IG jetbikes (Tallarn roughrider bodies with Tallarn HW gunner legs as riders).
Assembled 3 more IG Vox troopers (as heavy weapon 2nd crew) and trimmed the flash from 6 lasgunners.
I really despise trimming flash and mold lines from GW plastics!
I'm hoping March will be a better month - I've moved my painting table to a room where I can work more easily late at night.
