I'm guilty. When I was just starting my orks, my group was under the impression that all FAST vehicles could only be glanced if they moved more than 6 inches. Now, imagine 4-5 ork trukks with nobz and boyz and all that good stuff... that can only be glanced. To our group, orks were just tough!

It took about 3 minutes at a game store to find out how wrong I was, and how weak my army was...

Played against a guy with orks in the 'Ardboys who had just started. His shoota boys were in assault range of my berzerkers but he was gonna shoot first. I told him if he shot he couldn't assault, and I figured he wanted to assault. He replied that he wouldn't rapid fire, he would just shoot once then assault. I realized his buddies had taught him 3rd edition. I tried to explain the rapid fire rules but he didn't believe me. Luckily the store manager was playing on the next table over. Had to call him over to explain the rules half a dozen times. only got to the 4th turn before we ran out of time. Still got a victorious slaughter, but I could have gotten the massacre with more turns.

NOW they're assault weapons; last codex they were rapid fire.

Eww really? I thought all Ork guns used to be assault. My mistake.

That must have well and truly sucked.

But yeah, I have a buddy who plays Templars, and, I suppose understandably, to this day he does not get how Rapid Fire weapons work. I have to very patiently explain it to him every time it comes up. It's so bad he purposefully avoids any and all kind of Rapid Fire weapons. So at least there's no Plasma to worry about...

I've found that gladiator-style tourneys with fair judges do a good job of straightening out the uninformed and cheaters. Not having to worry about your sportsmanship being docked for pointing out and double-checking opponent's rules-swerving, having a judge to back you up and penalize unfair advantages, and having a pack of good players to eject dumbasses to the sound of much laughter is a powerful thing. I wish it was the norm, actually.

Playing at game stores is just asking for an encounter with aberrant psychology. Having a club that kicks out dweebs helps that, too.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

I played against a guy once who was using blank dice.

I said, "Hey, those dice don't have any spots!"

He said, "Yeah, I had a guy in Chicago rub 'em off for me. But don't worry, I remember where the spots used to be."

Wait, that wasn't me. That was Frank Sinatra shooting craps in "Guys and Dolls". Never mind...

We had a guy use loaded dice one time. Didn't realize they were till about the 2nd turn. We let him keep playing with them and he still lost. The best part is we made him use em on Ld rolls too.

There was a guy at a gaming store I used to go to who was caught using loaded dice. He vehemently denied it until someone got a bucket of water and demonstrated it. After that he claimed he just wanted to teach his opponent a lesson.

This guy had all kinds of tricks. He would use a big handful of those little tiny 3mm dice, roll em right in front of himself, make a show of looking at them, and then scoop them up and declare the results. He never had his army lists written down. He misinterpreted the rules a lot too.

My first time in the store, he cornered me and wanted to play. I ignorantly said yes, and he started unpacking his chaos army. We start setting up, and he puts a titan on the board. When I protested, he said that if he couldn't play with it, then we couldn't play. I stupidly agreed. So he starts his turn, and says the titan is firing it's plasma destructor. When I ask about this, he shows me an old book with some stats for a chaos titan in it, clearly way out of date. The plasma destructor was S10 AP2, large blast template, didn't have to roll to hit, and did twice the number of wounds as models under the template. I didn't win.

I remember another thing from that store. I was watching a game between two marine players, when one guy nails his opponent's emperor's champion with something big, and the other guy rolls and fails his invuln. The first guy starts to go on, and the second guy picks up the die and rolls it again. When asked what he was doing he said he was rerolling the invuln save. When asked how he was able to do this he replied that he mastercrafted the iron halo. It was a good laugh.

Loaded dice have a slug of something heavy (usualy lead) in them to weight one side more than the others. This is most often done by drilling out the "1" and filling it in with the slug. When the die is then rolled, the weight will pull the "1" side down significantly more than the other sides thus causing the die to roll a 6 more often than not. If you take the die (or dice as the case may be) and drop them in water, they will either float or sink slowly to the bottom. If they are unloaded, they will sink / float with a random side up. If they are loaded, they will always sink and due to the weight, always sink with the loaded side pointed down.

strangely enough, GW, bless thier infinite wisdom, now agree with that, since they don't do FAQ's anymore.

It just comes with the territory I suppose. I bought a set of loaded dice (3d6) at a game convention once when I was in junior high. They were so heavily weighted that they would roll and spin around very unnaturally on the 1. It was obvious to most people that something was up. I never really used them for anything but it was fun to joke with them on occasion.

As far as the science of figuring out if dice are loaded goes, I spent enough time in school studying buoyancy and other assorted physical properties that I had better be able to figure something like that out. If not, I may have to go return my degree.

As a side note, stay in school, it will allow you to figure out if your opponents are cheating and will give you the math skills (if you take math of course) necessary to get fully involved in the 40k sub-game, Mathhammer 40,000.

I think claiming dyslexia as an excuse for such an act is a slap to everyone whose had to live with actually having the condition, and they should all get together and smack him at one. We tried so hard in that shop with this guy, too. We have a big thing about wanting to "bring up" new gamers of any age. Anyone ready to pick up dice, really. We realize that good gaming opponents come in all shapes, sizes, ages, and demographics; however they are a thing to be cared for. Sounds really touchy-feely, but there's a great gaming scene at my local FLGS, and we intend to keep it that way, hence encouraging new blood. However, this kid defied even us. I dunno what his deal was.

wtf I have dyslexia and I never had any thing on the tabelthat wasn't on my army list ( and the points wear on it to and correct) I would be pist on the guy.

on other not friend of my play against a dark angel player death wing I think the thing with al de termies. he woud deepstrike an charge on the same turn saying it was aloud for his army.
so day after the game I ask a friend if it was possible to borrow his dark angel codex so I could look it up and they can't. and it seems he was doing this to everyone.
and sad to the people go busted him that go would never play them again cause they cheat.
