Doctor Optimal in fantasy the main battlefield area is pretty much a wide open space to lend to the game more/cut back on hassles terrain cause in fantasy. Terrain in fantasy usually stays to the sides and backs of the battlefields. Also line of sight isn't every really done over anything. the missile troops can either see or not see of it, that's bout it.

Thanks fellas

@Death by Monkeys : Its not my eyes but my nerves that are taking the hit. I am going to bolt metal studs trough my arms to make them more stabile.

@Bastirous666 : Block troops are going to be all small guys - thunderers for example, are going to look like ;
- 1st row : warmaster empire cannon + operator per base
- 2nd row : warmaster empire cannon loader and stuffer with ammo dump per base
- 3rd, 4th, 5th... row : warmaster empire handgunners/skirmishers/crossbowmen assorted per base (3 odd models per base)
Alltough, I imagine a thunderer unit only has something like 3 rows, 5 bases per row or something like this? am I right?

About normal size humans/giants/Gulliver - I will start with the Lilliputians, but I do have some other plans too. Atleast Gulliver will be done as some kind of hero, and there might be giants coming too (is there any way of mixing ogres into dwarfs legally? is there some wild dogs of war unit that could be used as "giants" statswise or something? tempting idea this, but I am not sure if it can be done army legal)

@Aduro : I still dont believe that there is anyone on this earth capable of actually doing that - doing it the "magicians way" I could maybe do, but since this is going to serve in an active army some day, I wont be stuffing it into one

@Dr. Optimal : allmost all of my units will be missile-based. I am also mainly a 40k player, but considering how me and my usual gaming company plays games, I see no LOS issues (we usually "normalize" stuff, i.e. consider there is a rad tau crisis suit converted to perform the legendary Liu Kang Bicyclekick 4 inches high from the base - we would consider it in the standard pose and size of a crisis-suit when determining what can see what - we dont like people headshotting flagpoles, and this kind of "normalization" works perfectly to avoid such nasty tricks)

@Teek : I am very happy that ya dig this too - nice to get positive feedback from someone that gave yourself inspiration, ya know?
Also, about the siege-equipment - brilliant! alltough im still far from starting on the bulk of the army, I will give this a spin (allready started to figure out how to make siegetowers to warmaster-size...)

Anyways, thanks a bunch all for the positive feedback - and the ideas too!
Hopefully I will get more stuff done to the ship before the weekend.

I have to say, when this topic was started I was very skeptical - I thought that it would look unconvincing and lack any real interest. I've been proved very wrong, as the work so far is immensely inspiring, in particular the level of detail you are going to in order to make the figures work.

My suggestion to really reinforce the sense of scale is have a think about doing some scenic basing - have some of your troops climbing over an Empire helmet, or perhaps using a discarded shield as cover. I think scale touches will really make the army appear as if it is composed of little people in a big person's world.

Fantastic work - looking forward to seeing more

Thunderers, like nearly all missile troops in WHFB, are generally fielded in just 2 ranks, or even 1 if you just want to shoot with no back rank at all. I'd suggest going 2 ranks of 10 so you have some nice firepower, +1 rank, and can model the rear rank as loaders (a solid idea IMO). On a hill all 20 can shoot as well.

Ogres can in fact be taken as DoW units - ironguts (ogres w/ gw & ha), bulls (ogres w/ just clubs), leadbelchers (ogres w/ shotguns, basically) - for 1 rare slot. Or you could even take a giant, rules for which are on the GW website

EDIT: Ahhh Dwarfs can in fact not take DoW giants! Nevermind then. I think you can still take DoW ogres though?

@ Axiom : Scenic bases has been in my mind for quite some time now - ive also had some other ideas of making it clear to whoever is watching these guys that they are very small - one idea was to have a Gnoblar in the middle of a unit, all roped up and enslaved in the same manner as Gulliver was in the story - also, ive noticed how people put their rank and file on bases that are infact 4-5 normal bases long - this kind of basing would be very helpfull when it comes to making scenic bases with lots of "action" on them.
The thing with Warhammer is that I really dont like the look of a unit - allmost every unit seems to me somewhat comical when there is 25 models inside a single square. I understand the fundamentals behind this, but still I do not like the look of "standard assembly" of a warhammer unit - not only does it look disfunctional, it also makes the detail on the miniatures behind the 1st row disapear.
I will try and make my units look like 1 big model so its more apealing to the eye - for now I can only discribe what im seeing in my head, but I hope that the mental image of one of these "unitsize models" will become a reality. Game mechanics wont brake as long as there is the same number of bases than there is models bought by points - and that I can remove needed number of "dead bases" when needed.

At one time, I was thinking about a warhammer army based on some legendary dudes from kung-fu movies, like "Dao the blade", simply by making one guy with a scenic base the size of 5x5 square bases, give it some sort of wound counter and claim it as "25 marauders with flail!" ... it just started to taste cheesy and lame pretty fast so I discarded the idea.
This time around tough there will be real bases used and ALOT of models on em, so there wont be any "invisible ninjamasters" running about the gamingfield.

@Boss_Salvage :
BRILLIANT! alltough, this would mean that I could only fit 1 airship-gyrocopter in a 2000pts list, but then again, some ogres converted into 1800ish attires armed with blunderbusses would make kickarse leadbelchers!!

How I cant wait for next month - ill have alot more time on my hands, or so I hope...

Thanks again fellas, you make my day!

Perhaps a couple in the front lines with ladders (All the better to stab those "tall folk" in the face!) Or a few carrying a ladder upright, with a single brave soul "riding" the top, screaming on the charge! He could serve as the point for LOS or height focus, if need be.

Heh. You know what you could do? Seige towers for HtH combat!

Just to let ya guys know Im not down and out - I will continue this project soon (infact, I need to, since its going to be one of my five pretest works to an artschool that im trying to get into...)

To add some offtopic, ive been pulled away from this project to do other art-related things so that I actually have 5 worksamples finished before time runs out on me (artschool will close its doors on 14. next month...)
so here is a little something on the side that might catch your specialized eye - not miniature, but painting still.

CLICK!
