Also, modelling busty women on purpose unsettles other players.
And modeling gobs of big-hairy-sweaty-men doesn't?
There's really no good reason why GW doesn't follow it's own fluff when it comes to making models. According to the fluff, half of all eldar warriors and half of all cadian soldiers are female, yet the model range ignores this fact, almost completely.
My personal opinion is that the GW staff lacks the sculpting skills to pull it off, and the designers are applying some 1940's thinking into the fictional 40K universe.

Man, that's the joy of Anime! To revel in the complete and utter wastefullness of making an unstoppable nuclear-powered combat andriod in the shape of a cute little girl, who has the ability to fall in love and wears an enormous bow in her hair. |

i would say the staff aren;t talented to do it. Rocket girl wasn't a bad model and th einquistor scale arbites hunt leade rwas also a good female model. Also look ath eh warhmmer range the woodleves and elves ha veosme pretty decent female models as well
i think its a mixture of they aren't quite sure abotu how to do it in a 40k army and worried about people reacon to say putting one femal torso, legs and head on a say the cadian or catchan sprue and don't want to be accuse of encouraging certian ideas, mainly form ultre nazi femnists or wierd mother organisaitons.... although saying that plastic deamonettes.....

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal. |

That doesn't make any sense. Female Cadians and Catachans are part of the fluff already, and always have been, so if they were worried about "certain ideas," then why would they have written that in the first place? (What "ideas" are you talking about, anyway?)
So, why make the fluff one way and the model-line another? If they don't like the fluff, why don't they change it? They've certainly never been shy about changing fluff in the past. If they like the fluff, then why not make the model-line to match it? They've never been shy about re-doing models.

Hmm, I find it funny that you mention the lack of female models but not the lack of other colours? I have only seen two black models in all my books (the black guy from the 4th ed rulebook under killteam and a black catachan with a demo charge) and only one pic with a black guy in it. (From the current C:SM its of two salamanders one of which is black and has a flamer.) Maybe in the 41st millenium the KKK are actually the Imperium? That would explain all the anti xeno and total religous spasms.
Just to prove it, take one look at Sanguinus and tell me he isn't Hitlers dream come true? (and how come all the DA sergeants have blonde hair? Superhumans anyone?)

I don't find it unusual. Do you know why?
Because that is not the subject of this thread.
I mean, it's right there in the title, you can't miss it.
It's the same reason no one is posting about Rachael and Ross from Friends or really good Kendo instructors.

Its my understanding that the Israelis tried mixed frontline units. Apparently the presence of women in infantry combat makes men doing even dumber stuff than usual. Single sex units only now.

GW ignores its own fluff on so many levels it hurts..... IMHO, when you play WH40K forget the fluff and play the game as it is, and when you read the books do the same thing...ignore the game....never the twain shall meet
I find it annoying that companies like Wyrd Miniatures, Infinity, Anima tactics and countless others can produce a very good female in armour and GW either can't or won't. The SOB are substandard in comparrison to most in my opinion, and thats a real shame.

Actually i think there is a good explanation for why there are not any female models especially in IG
The imperium can not afford to be sexist but they must above all be practical so putting women on the front lines when you could just as easily put men doesn't make sense
im not saying that girls are inferior but in all realty you have to admit men will almost always make better soldiers so they send the men to the front lines which is what we see

not again

Er... when your job description is "press the fire-button on your blessed las rifle on full-auto until you are over-run by nids/orks/chaos/killer bunnies and die", I'm sure just about everyone fits the bill.
IG need female guardsmen in the range. Most mini-collectors I know like female minis. There are female figs in the elf and eldar plastics, and there should definitely be the option for IG, especially since on some worlds the fluff says that birth rate = conscription rate. Plus, there's lots of great stories involving female soldiers, such as the Dan Abnett books. One of the best movie influences for IG, Aliens, has lots of female characters, so there's plenty of inspiration out there. There are supposed to be billions and billions of Imperial worlds, and that means we are going to come across women soldiers in the universe, and we need the option for those of us who want to include them in our armies.
I honestly think the reason GW hasn't done this, is it is tough to sculpt a good looking female figure that isn't going for the boobs and legs look. (Pardon my crudity.) If the figure is wearing flak vest, a ton of webbing, grenades, ammo pouches and a helmet, then it's going to take a good sculptor to sculpt the figure in a way that is clearly female without being over the top, and still have it look good.
Urban mammoth has some good looking female figs, like their sniper sergeant, and I wish GW would follow suit and release some. I'm pretty sure there would be a market for it, most 40k forums I've seen have a thread asking why there are no girls in 40k, I've seen conversion projects a plenty, and then there are the sales of female models in general to look at. Just check out the ranges of Hasslefree, Reaper, Urban Mammoth, or Privateer Press to see the percentage of females - it's actually pretty high. If that doesn't convince you, look at what some folks are willing to pay on Ebay for the old Games Day female commissar, which isn't even a good mini by today's standards.

There's plenty of of female IG troops models! The only problem is that the Imperium loads them up with steroids East-German style so they all look like the male guardsmen!

thought the idea in army (no militry background thou just a guess) was to make everyone look the same so all you need to do is use femine faces on normal bodies (this works for cadians not so well for catachans!!!) and as they would be wearing helemts and not have long hair the differences would be small

Female guards men would be had to see, unless they are Catachan, in which case they would prob look like the girl from Red Alert 2.

I don't know about the fluff, but it wouldn't be too hard of a conversion to do, just put a more feminine head on and rely on the armor to cover the more.. Noticeable feminine features. I know theres a picture in the IG codex that makes it look like that army is really bulky and would hide breasts pretty well. Also if it doesn't say so in the fluff, which I am assuming it does becuase you all have said so, than it would make more sense to use full units of men and leave the woman to help keep the economy going and having more children to send to the War effort.
I imagine it works like if they reinstated the draft would, Men your forced into it, and while Woman can enlist they don't have to, and I mean really who would want to enlist in the Imperial Guard?

Maybe, I think women are conscipted in the Cadian regiments but they have maternity leave and most don't actuall see their parents until they die.
