People in their 30s and 40s who still play the game need to move over and let the younger generation have its time in the sun. Don't you people have lives?

35 here. My regular gaming group are all between 30-40 too.

The younger generation can't afford their time in the sun - you have to be in your 30's in order to buy an army - or have mommy buy one for you.

26 here. We've got a younger club that plays a lot, and a vets club that plays less. Both have naught but scorn for the other.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

Run along and play with your little toy soldiers, there's a good (?) lad.

The grown ups are talking.

It's because of us older players that GW brought out Apocalypse. So that we could use our already existing Huuuuge armies, not so that you young whippersnappers can go out and buy up new armies that you'll never hope to paint up before you get to OUR age.

It's because of us that you young'uns can get to appreciate the joys of the Vortex grenade (bud, sadly, will probably never know the joys of the virus bomb.).

@Doctor Optimal- I also sell Computers and such to Schools around Australia.

Ironic, isn't it?

Also, when I don't have a 6' x 4' table in front of me, with little plastic/pewter mini's, and an opponent, Dakka is the next, best thing.

Hey! Old guys!

I'm getting up there in years myself at 22, having played 40k since I was 14. Now I mostly play Flames of War and dabble in Hordes, Urban War, DBA and that sort of stuff. That said, most of the guys I play FOW with also have 40k or PP armies, and most of the guys I play with are 20 or 30+. When I go play in tournaments I see a lot of guys who are in their 40s and 50s.

Obviously with historicals there is more of a tendency for older players, but there are certainly a significant portion in their 20s as well.

I don't think it's weird at all to be playing at any age. Wargaming is a good hobby that lets you express yourself creatively, socialize with others with similar interests, and compete. If you're still enjoying it, you should still be doing it, and that's the bottom line.

Personally, although I've suffered burn-out before, and I'm sure I'll go through "dry spells" again, I don't plan on ever quitting the hobby completely. I'm already looking forward to retiring so I can have the time to play banjo in the comfort of my rocking chair, drink dark beer and eat pretzels, and paint 1 to 1 battalions of shako-wearing infantry so I can play War of 1812 scenarios.

See thats the problem with you old farts. You're living in the past. You need to move on and stop talking about your space wolves with army commander on combat drugs, assassin with vortex grenade, solfguard scout with stasis grenade, speeders that popped up and allied farseers. Really, just because one of your best games was channeling an entire nid force through smoke bombs into waiting terminators with str10 A cannons, doesn't mean you have to bore everyone else with it. Next thing you know, you'll pull out your RT era dreadnoughts and inform your opponents that yes, this model is older than you are

I've been informed that I will be shortly celebrating the 18 anniversary of my 21st drunkfest. Yee ha.

I don't think anyone I game with is under 30.

I'm in my 40s and still play.

However, I have no interest in playing at conventions and the only people keeping me in the game (40K) are pre-20s.

No, we have women and children we desperately want to get the hell away from.

I turn 30 next week and plan on having an apocalypse party. Every one in my group is either older than myself with kids, or 21 and under and still live with mama. I'm sort of the middle man.

I'll be hitting 40 at the end of this year (!) and my best friend (and who actually games WFB/40K WAY more than me) is going to hit 40 in June.

They key at this "advanced age" is to get into a good gaming group and stay there!

I'd agree. I played 40k in RT days (and fantasy back then) however the group I was in was too much into power gaming and we all lost interest. Got back into 40k just before 4th ed came out and since then I've have easily spent over 3 grand. That's pound's (£).

The group I'm now part of, however competitive, are a lot more mature and winning isn't eveything!

BTW I'm 34 in June.
